Well, the Kingfisher in court, after chopping an attacker to bits, could NEVER be a garden tool. It's clearly designed as a weapon. At least the CS machete, you have the benefit of the doubt.

Sir Thorfinn said what I was going to, in part. The other is about the grip on CS machetes. I find them a bit more smooth than I prefer. Unistat solved his problem grip issue with a Dremel Tool. In my case I used ranger bands on all. This was any early attempt on my part to modify a grip. They worked fine but in the long run UV light caused deterioration. Rescue tape or friction tape will work better. Some use Grip Band. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/58261/grip-band?page=8&scrollTo=847303

Cold steel cutlass machete will work very well against an intruder. Whether the guy has a firearm or not. The cutlass is fast.

I went with the Dremel on this because I couldn't fit the roll through the D-guard and make it nice and flat lol.

Hockey tape was friction tape until plastic electrical tape came out in the early ‘50s and every household had a roll of friction tape. I also still call duct tape duck tape amongst other carryovers. Yeah I suspect that knuckle bow would be an obstacle. I rewrapped my 12” CS Barong this afternoon using friction tape. The ranger bands had had it.

Up here in Michigan it's most definitely hockey tape, haha. Other states have kids playing hoops in the street, we got kids playing street hockey. It's exactly like that scene in Wayne's World.
I've also used tennis raquet wrap. Probably the best grip I ever had was gutted paranoid laced around the handle of a knife and then hockey tape over that. Sort of a modern version of the cord and leather sword handle wrap. The problem is it adds so much bulk. If a handle isn't made for it, it doesn't work so good.
