I bought this sword used a few years ago from either SBG classifieds or maybe myArmoury.com....can't quite recall but neither here nor there. The sword had a grip that was a bit "washed out". Not sure if it was from use, perhaps some sort of product was applied or it came from Albion that way and it was just a bit off, maybe the person doing the grip was off their game...but it was not the best overall grip on an Albion I had ever seen. Always kinda bugged me. Plus it was one of those Albions that I felt could use a bit more thickness...it was a really pretty thin grip feel to me. I have been eying the Soborg recently and really want that sword...but looking at the Gaddhjalt its very similar. A bit shorter, cross is longer and pointier etc etc...but still, pretty similar. The Soborg is a BIG ticket item. Goofy Gaddhjalt grip + Soborg coveting = See below. I think it turned out well. Never did this kind of under grip pattern but I figured it out and am pretty happy with the overall results. 2019-04-07_09-20-19 by warspite15, on Flickr 20201229_171314 by warspite15, on Flickr 20201229_191351 by warspite15, on Flickr 20210120_122936 by warspite15, on Flickr 20210120_122944 by warspite15, on Flickr 20210120_122923 by warspite15, on Flickr

Nice! That looks great!
Is there a particular way (or material used) to wrap the grip while the glue is drying to get the risers to show up well, but not leave cordage marks in the leather? Is it just a matter of wrapping it with something that is wide, like another strip of leather?

Wet leather, not soaking wet. As thin as possible...2 oz thickness, something like that. I got a nice piece of goat leather from an ebay vendor. Once its wet and it is thin (thin is super key)...I just wrapped it. I use wood glue as the adhesive. Just kept working it with my hands, pressing it in etc etc. Everything sort of starts drying and setting up. Maybe 45 mins of constant attention. Thin is key.
If doing the standard cord imprinted type deal..much of the above still applies but the tight cord on top of wet leather makes it pretty easy...because once that is in place its Miller time.

Yes, very nicely done. It's not that easy to get a result like this. The color works as well in my opinion.

Thanks all. I can't help but think it needs just a bit or something else. I was kicking around the idea adding decorative nails to each of the X's similar to the Albion Chevalier. I recently bought these really little decorative nails with the original intent of doing a crisscross overwrap ..
