It started with a cutting stand. I kept finding designs with long timbers for the base which are not portable, storable, or usable in my second floor apartment, so I made one with foldable legs. Then I wanted a pell, so I wrapped some timber in a carpet sample I got for five bucks from a carpet store. I also want to use it for sharps, so rather than wrap it tight so it’s hard against the wood and easier to cut, I’m trying a loose wrap. I figure it’s hard cutting something that’s not sitting properly on a cutting board, so maybe this will help the carpet last longer. It’s only glued to the wood on one face for starters, then wrapped to leave gaps all around, then finally glued only to the layer of carpet below also on only one face. We’ll see how it goes I cut the stand and drilled holes in the newly cut faces with a spade bit, used dowel for a joint, put my carpet wrapped wood on and gave it a good wack. Knocked it over first hit. Hmmm. So I started looking for a more stable solution and kept finding designs which included concrete and/or tyres or really long legs for the base, all of them unsuitable. So I started thinking about how to get the pell to come back to centre quickly. Here’s what I came up with The pell Bottle cutting Tatami cutting / newspaper cutting The components - the heaviest part is the foot of railway track. I can’t even knock it over with a staff 😊
