Very nice to see them side by side. I love exotic hardwood, but I have noticed that after it arrives to the dry winter tundra that is Buffalo, NY in winter, it shrinks terribly. I have tried various methods to make the wood swell again, but it never assumes the same size again. Let me know if the peen becomes loose because the wood shrinks. I'm curious to see if that happens.

First impressions please (looks so elegant and awesome :o ) How's the weight and handling ? Some preference ? The weight of the Pomepii gladius by Purna is 1.5lbs, the weight of the Albion Tiberius Fulham gladius weighs 1.8lbs. They both handle extremely well. Blade length of Pomepii is 19.25 inches long, the blade length of the fulham is 19.75 inches long. As you can see in the photo's the blade widths is very different, the Tiberius is 58mm wide and the Pomepii is 46mm wide, the Tiberius also tapers from 5.3mm-2.8mm, there is no distal taper on the pomepii. The Tiberius was in use for only a small portion of time within the Roman time period, it has been theorized that it is just a variation of the Mainz gladius type blade or a regional variation, it was notably found over in Fulham, England. The Pompeii style was notably found in the city of Pompeii but it also has more history as it was used for a longer period in the later Roman empire and eventually being replaced all together by the Spatha.

Interesting, no distal taper at all on Purna's piece? Many originals had little to no distal taper. I think it's a modern expectation.

Oohh I was eagerly awaiting a side by side comparison. I think Purna did a great job for his first gladius. I'm guessing his cost less than the Albion? If so, how would you compare his version to other production companies of similar price points?

I would say Purna's gladius feels like the Deepeeka Fulham model AH2007 in that it is very light and agile and feels like an extension of your hand. Yes quite a bit difference in price, Albion costs $770.00 before shipping, Purna's is under $300 with shipping from Nepal. This is also his first EVER attempt at a Gladius and I think he did a fantastic job, imagine what he could do with more practice doing this type of work.

I am just surprised it isn't in there by default just based on how all of my pieces from him have it without even specifying it on a few. Now I say no distal taper as I did not specify he put that in, as I read that pomepii gladius usually did not have it, I just assumed since I did not state it that it did not have it, I don't have calipers to check if it does though.

I wouldn't know about the AH2007... mine's still at the closed border haha. Under $300 for a custom gladius and he made you a scabbard? That is a great deal. As he's getting more experience, are you planning a second Roman sword from him?

Yes I was thinking about it, I do have another gladius coming end of this month, a custom pompeii gladius & scabbard done by Mark Morrow. I was thinking about having Purna do a Mainz type eventually.

So I decided to go a weird route and just buy a deepeeka gladius for only the scabbard to try it out on my Albion Tiberius and boy what a great fit & combo I found, I paid little over $100 to get a munitions grade scabbard and it fits perfectly! Holding it upside down doesn't slide out, drawing it, draws easily and the color scheme looks like it matches very well. I am very pleased with the purchase. What do you guys think?

Nice! 100 for a scabbard is a great bargain, and I think Deepeeka's Roman scabbards are quite good, based on some solid research. I hate the varnish they put on their brass, but that's my only complaint.

Wow, I can't believe your luck in the fit! Seems to be perfect. And the colour matches very nicely. Great find!
