How long ago did you order your John J? It says on the website that they have a limited supply of jade G10 and may substitute with something else. The OEF Defender came around 350 g heavier than advertised. Just too much. My John J weighs 702 g, spot on as advertised. It must’ve been two to three months or so since I ordered. The scales feel like micarta to me. The whole knife has quite a “character” and feels just bomb-proof in the hand. Surely not an everybody’s darling kind of knife.

I'm strongly considering the single-edged qama. Looks like a great rustic machete replacement. I wouldn't go munitions grade though, it's only $50 normally and a bend or twist would really throw off my groove. I’ve got one. It was a real pig in the handling department at first. I reshaped the profile to get rid of the upswept tip and then ground in some distal taper after the fullers. I also took down the primary bevel and turned the severe secondary bevel it came with into a nice, blended appleseed. Much improved, but I’ve got some hours in it to get there. Given that you are inclined to tinker like I am, you should go for it.

So this inspired me to have this made by Purna Darnal. Meet Gustave, The terror of the Nile. The handle will have Buffalo Horn instead of the wood spacers but otherwise the materials are the same. Sharpened clip also. Love it!

Love it! Put a lot of aggressiveness to the Dundee-style blade shape and with the double guard… Love it!

I just ordered the The Pathfinder (Khukuri-Bowie Fighting Dagger) from the Devil's Edge line because I felt encouraged by this thread. It's also on sale which didn't hurt I have their Devil's Toothpick which I find to be a nice looking piece but I've never stressed it any. I may just do that with this new one since it would be easier to cut with, I think. Even if it ends up being a wall hanger, it's cheap enough that it's worth the "look" to me.

That's awesome! Post your impression once it arrives and you have a chance. I'm guessing you will be as happy as I am with these things. Nothing like not expecting much and being pleasantly surprised.
