Very nice. Not gonna lie, I alwaysfound the stereotypical Pakistan knives with the brass fittings and colorful dymondwood or bone handles very attractive. You know, like the timber rattler garbage. Just wished they were built sturdier or with better steels. It'll be interesting to see how this performs.

I have their Arkansas Toothpick. It's actually a very nice knife, if huge For the price, they're excellent blades. I probably should add a bowie from that line to my collection.

Just wished they were built sturdier or with better steels. It'll be interesting to see how this performs. I was really shocked at how sturdy this knife is. I have no qualms hacking into timber out in the back yard. I've come close to abusing it, and it has not loosened a bit. KOA says 1095 and I have no reason to believe that it is not correct. Not the easiest to re-sharpen, but it did take a really nice paper cutting edge after dulling (using my wet stones). It never really got dull, I would say more like it wasn't biting as deep after a few hours of use. It really didn't need to be re-sharpened, I just really like messing with my stones.

Unfortunately, 99% of the made-in-Pakistan stuff will still be low quality. Exceptions have always been present, but we're just starting to learn who they are.

Total beauty. Good to know it endures some work. Thanks for sharing those nice pics.

Unfortunately, 99% of the made-in-Pakistan stuff will still be low quality. Exceptions have always been present, but we're just starting to learn who they are. Understood. Still, I wonder if the 99% (Or anywhere close) is being a bit overzealous. I'll go no lower than 95%. Once upon a time, Chinese steel had the same reputation as the stuff from Pakistan does now. Some managed to figure out the market wants better, and went on to deliver, consistently. Many still do not. I haven't seen many paying that much, either; but I've seen a lot of subpar work come from those who have. Quality comes with cost wherever it's made, but a $100 knife from [no brand] "Made in Pakistan" probably isn't going to be at the same level as even a $50 [known brand] "Made in China/Taiwan/Japan/etc" up to and including EU and US. A noble goal shared by many, before you and concurrently. One example, very recently brought to light. Still a long way to go. Just saying. Even taking this particular knife, from this particular brand, I've seen but a few examples of their product and while most have been "okay" to "pretty good" there have been examples that were "not as good as expected" as well.

A $60 1095 carbon knife from Pakistan is obviously not the same as a $10 440 stainless knife from Pakistan, and I'm glad to see more functional options. I will doubtless be trying one of the Devil's Edge blades next time I order from KOA.

I would love to hear your impressions, Red. Just as I’d love to have Brother Nathaniel keep sharing his thoughts, innovations and experiences. My thanks go out to anyone taking the time and effort to present some share of this wonderful hobby to all of us. That’s the beauty of the internet. Bringing our views together.

On the other side of this are all of the people I've read/heard about having bad experiences with Devil's Edge heat treats. I think it's the consistency problem we keep seeing from these budget East and/or South Asian volume producers.

The Boar's tooth came in the mail this afternoon. Another Munitions Grade. This time, I can tell the blade has a slight bend to the right. Not too bad, but noticeable. I'd be surprised if it affects cutting, but it may make sharpening by hand a pain. I'm sure it will be fine on my Work Sharp.
Pictures tomorrow in the daylight and maybe some choppin' if the weather is nice.
First impression is not nearly as impressive as the first Devil's Edge Bowie.
More to follow.

I'm strongly considering the single-edged qama. Looks like a great rustic machete replacement. I wouldn't go munitions grade though, it's only $50 normally and a bend or twist would really throw off my groove.

Normally, the bend would drive me nuts, but I bought this one to really beat and see how well that steel will hold up. If it holds up, it will just end up under the seat in my truck, so no big deal. I really like bizarre things like this... www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=RA084&name=Croc+Jaw+BowieUgly as sin, but has 80's mall cool written all over it. If the Boar's Tooth edge holds up to some real abuse, I think I'm gonna give the Croc Jaw Bowie a go.

If you haven't seen any of his reviews, totally worth watching (excellent sense of humor). He does a lot of budget stuff and really gives it a hammering. I decided to give the budget knife realm a chance based on some of his experiences. Not specifically Devil's Edge, but East/South Asian offerings. I also decided to give this a try and am waiting for it to arrive. Should be pretty decent from Khukkuri House. Rambo is one of my "guilty pleasures" in life and probably the reason I started collecting knives in the first place.

Up to specs after a huge disappointment with the OEF Defender, which was much too heavy. Edge resp. bevel on the John J is still thick, though. Handle feels blocky. Otherwise it’s well made and has a lot of “Rambo” flair, so to speak. Attachments:

How's that wasp performing? It’s doing great. Not a good slicer due to the edge bevels, but came well sharpened. The tip is robust, but penetrates easily on up to 30 layers of denim. Very stout little dagger and fits the hand well, you get a very secure grip on this. The sheath is good. Good retention, good release.

How long ago did you order your John J? It says on the website that they have a limited supply of jade G10 and may substitute with something else.
