So, I've been wondering if anyone else has had this idea and actually done this...I was thinking about buying a $50 katana (like the one below) and just filing down the edge to use for practice. Apparently this sword is a pretty good and solid cutter so I don't see problem for it being used as an iaito. What are some other people's thoughts on this? Just looking for some advice and suggestions. Thanks! Link to the sword in mind: www.swordsofmight.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=297Link to cutting video show its 'structural integrity':

I was allready thinking of doing this myself, but then I got my real beautiful Ninecircles Iaito.... In fact, you can easily do this, if you wish. I don`t know if this iaito would be suitable for dojo training thus most sensei do not like seeing this kind of training material. But if you want a sword that you can train with this is a good Idea. I don`t know how much effort will be needed when removing the edge, but a iaito for 50Bugs sounds good. Maybe you will rewrap the tsuka and make it a real decent iaito. Just make sure the blade is really acceptable //Edit: Keep in mind the edge should be taken off to a thickness of 2mm. And make sure you round off any edges and batches left from the file. Also keep in mind this iaito will still be cutting, just like any other iaito. You can hurt yourself and anybody else, break bone or even cut through it. This underlines my pov that absolute sharpness is not needed on a sword. This would be suitable only for solo iai katas. Removing the edges lessens the risk of injury, but doesn`t kill it If you think about it, you could in fact use a shinken. If you couldn`t, you also shouldn`t use iaito but bokken or shinai.

Yeah, I'm aware that it is still a weapon, however, it beats training with a bokken and I use my Tenchi for noto and nukitsuki practice now which is not ideal at all. Thanks for the input!
