I made some new target stands today and thought I'd share. They are 1" PVC with 2" couplers on top to fit 16.9 oz disposable water bottles, as well as one 4" flange that fits 2 liter soda bottles. The bottoms are cut at a slant and have a T fitting about six inches up so they can be stepped on and driven into soft ground. I cut them at various heights from knee level up to raised-arm-overhead height. I think sometimes we fall into a trap of only cutting targets at about chest level, where it is easiest, so it is nice to have the variety. They can be rearranged in different layouts on my lawn each time I cut, so I can practice judging distance and transitioning between targets smoothly. The fittings at the top also allow me to slip a 1" flashlight into the top. The blue water bottle in the middle of the picture has a flashlight under it, which makes it fun after sunset. Also pictured: stack of tires over a fence post for a training pell.

Yup, do something similar. And if you don't have soft ground to drive them into, you just get old Xmas tree stands from the thrift store and hold the pvc pipe in them.

Very innovative! I too use old xmas tree stands, I think I'm up to about 6 now.... Every year I drive thru the neighborhood on trash day and usually find 3-4, of which a few are usable. They don't last long, as the cheap plastic cracks around the screws that hold the upright. But the price is right

That’s brilliant. I can envision putting them around the yard so I can practice moving between cuts. Thanks for sharing.

Love that idea! I made a cutting stand with a 4X4 and was planning to do another, but I might do something like this instead.

I stick my stand in a bucket of sand and bricks.

That's one approach with some good merit. I'll stick with my traditional wood stand with free standing bottles because when I cut and see the bottom part still setting there as nothing happened I know I did things correctly. Also I recall someone with a similar setup I think chip his blade on a bad cut if I recall correctly. I lay a free board on my stand to absorb some of the energy on a bad cut. Yes Martha, I have been known to do that.
