Hello All forum members! As I was a spectator up till now, I'd like to ask You for a help now. I bought a spanish sabre M1895 toledo but have now doubts if it's authentic or not. I have different opinions, wheter it is an original piece of history or is it a fake, for-tourist wall hanger. Please share Your opinions with this topic. Sabre is on pictures compared to French infantry M1845 sabre. Spanish one has blade thickness of 4mm. Weight 1200g with sheath and ~700g alone. (M1845 1400g and ~1000g accordingly) The grips are made of wood probably. If more detailed pictures are needed then I'll try to prepare them. Many thanks in advance for every response!
Best Regards,
Silesian

Going by the stamp I'd say it's a made for tourist souvenir.

I’m not an expert on the M1895 but from the statistics you gave and looking at the knuckle bow construction I’d say you’ve got a Tourist’s Special. 4 mm thick blade? Hmm.

Ok, thanks for reply.
I was hoping that maybe the topic will be known to someone as there are some great reviews of this sabre on SBG forum.
(edit: I've assumed that everyone on forum will read my post immediately. That's of course false one - sorry for that. Please don't get angry:)) If You're interested in what I was using to verify this, I went to website vicentetoledo.es/es/espadas/sables-militares/ There are similar sabres, and because it is a spanish site, it has got all the versions mentioned (that's mine assumption) and mine is not one of these. Of course I can be wrong and that is why I was asking here.
If someone else has idea on topic, please share Your opinion. Kind Regards,

Several of our members have a M1895. I cannot think of any of the individuals at the moment. I am surprised that one hasn’t chimed in. I am willing to bet that yours is a tourist’s sword, and I’m not a betting man. For one a 4 mm thick blade is thin for a military sword. About twice that would be in the ball park. And you make no mention of a distal taper. You show no inspector's markings, no proofing, no manufacturing stamps, or any stampings that would be associated with a genuine military sword

Definitely a tourists sword. I have one of these. The handle is similar in design but looks quite a bit off from the real thing. Too narrow, the end cap looks seperate, while mine is more seamless.
Mine didn't have a stamp on the ricasso either

I may not be an expert on Spanish swords but I do know that your sword has had its engraving done with a laser.

It's a replica most likely made by Marto. It was used as a prop in the Highlander series for two different immortals, one didn't bother to identify it and the other one identified it fictionally as a 17th century German saber. Short answer, it's a Marto replica.
