Hey, Sam...if I post my designs here, are they copyrighted? I ask only because I plan on trying to have my swords made eventually, and I don't want to post them if someone can simply take the design and make it... Of, course, this doesn't apply to custom sword-smiths, such as you, Brendan or any of the other guys. But as far as companies go...how does it work?

Hey, um, Utilityslave , you do know that he started this thread 6 months ago, right ;D? lol In answer to your question, NO. Take your designs and mail them to yourself through certified mail, then leave the envelope sealed, that gives evidence of original design and timeline. Supposedly that is how you roughly can defend a copyright.

Copyrights in sword design are almost nill. No matter who you are, if it's interesting, it will be copied whether you like it or not. Especially since US copyrights mean jack semprini in China.
Jody Samson's designs have been ripped off and, hell, even I had one stolen. The thing is, it's never done by real sword makers, just wallhanger producers.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. sempriniesque versions of your idea only helps to show how good your concept was in the first place.
Besides, the chances of having your design produced on anything more than a custom scale is so slim, it's ridiculous. Tinker and Trim went through hell to get their lines produced, and they're incredibly well known in the sword community for their quality as swordmakers.
Regardless, good luck.

Yeah awhile back, do you still have the pictures? You should post the whole situation with your design and the real one by BKS and the wallhanger by whoever, that would be worth a look.

Hey, um, Utilityslave , you do know that he started this thread 6 months ago, right ;D? lol Yeah Slayer but like you I joined in November so I wasn't around to say something then. Over the last month while reading Sam's post I have developed a respect for him so when I read this thread I felt a need to comment.
