The bad is mine. I came in a bit high. The good belongs to the sword, an Universal M1902, on this filled free standing can. Drink cans are nothing to cut through but to slice through the top then continuing through the rest of the can is a bit trickier. That sword is my most used sword at present. For those wondering about the number of beer can targets recently I can only say obtaining those little buggers is a dirty job but somebody has to do it. 😉😉

I think it is a good cut pgandy. I am so out of practice. I need to get back to cutting. My best cut was a couple years ago when I got a chance to do some lessons under an Iaido master in Kyoto, Japan. The cut was made with a mumei 400-yr old Gifu blade (only time I have ever cut with a nihonto and likely the only time I ever will since I would never use my own to cut with). Here were the results of that: My can/bottle/jug work is not nearly as nice as this was... 😭

My best cut was a couple years ago when I got a chance to do some lessons under an Iaido master in Kyoto, Japan. That was a nice cut on your part. I’m afraid that I’d never use a 400 year old sword. The reason that I prefer repros is I’d be truly lost if I should damage a blade, which I’ve never done yet, on something of value. The first time for sure would be if I were to use something of value. I regret that I have no photo, a video would be far better, of my best cut(s). It was a normal work session so I had no reason to set up a camera. The task was to remove a banana tree. It was a mature tree of about 10”-12” diameter. I had collected the bananas and topped the tree prior in preparation of removing the trunk. This was the first tree that I had an unobstructed swing at, partly being on the edge the growth. I was using my 26” machete. I made a #5 (Brit ct) and nothing happened so I repeated the cut with the same result. WTF! How could I have missed, much less missed twice. I measured my distance and while it appeared OK I moved in slightly and for the third time gave a #5 and that thing just stood there stirring back at me. For the life of me I was dumbfounded. On close examination something just didn’t look right. So I pushed with my hand and low and behold if the top didn’t flop over. I repeated twice more with the same result each time. You don’t know how I regret not documenting that.

It was not my choice but rather the blade the sensei gave me to use for the session. I definitely did so under minor protest but was assured it was fine by him. I would NEVER do it with an antique I owned or with someone else's. This was a special circumstance and it was the blade he wished me to use. 🤷🏻♂️ It however did not take damage and was a very reverent and humbling experience.
