2 Neighborhood swords katana test cut on thick PPR pipe cored newspapers rolls. One is T10 differentially hardened and further sharpened by myself to the degree it can press cut paper. The other one is ultra sharp and extra thin with mirror polish. The factory edge can press cut paper out of the box already so I tested it out on cutting without any modification.

There was no mention of edge damage with the ultra thin sharp blades. I assume not and that says something about the quality. Very nice cutting indeed.

No damage on the edge of the ultra thin sharp katana. It had some wear and tear at normal scale from cutting and some touch up it is pristine again. The 3V though, did not even have that wear and tear at all. No touch up needed. It must be the higher hardness and the wear resistance of 3V that made the difference.

Nice cutting sir! It's good to see test cutting on resistive targets by someone who knows what they're doing. Thanks for sharing!

Nice cutting sir! It's good to see test cutting on resistive targets by someone who knows what they're doing. Thanks for sharing! Thanks for watching! Left side cuts are harder to do so I had to practice more to make sure my technique is "good enough" for these kind of targets.

China sword fans always regard empty bottles cutting is a good test of skill, so I just sit down, swinging with single hand to cut an empty bottle, showing how easily it can be done.

That's great! Best demo I've seen. That is impressive is an understatement.

I use bottles because they are available for free and useful for checking on technique. I look to see if the cut is even or curved which tells me what my edge alignment is.
I am going to renew my newspaper subscription and use it for resistive testing like I do with the carpet for thrusting.

This cutting seems unreal. Yet it’s very real. Impressive!

So it takes special kind of cutting to deal with such targets, which is applicable to human target too. Compare to other targets, these kind of newspapers + hard core targets require lots of power generation as well as the right amount of slicing. Too much slicing it's not going to cut through the bone. Too little slicing, like throwing-the-tip-out style of cut, will end up cutting with a huge bump feedback on the blade, due to the tremendous impact and deceleration upon contact.

This cutting seems unreal. Yet it’s very real. Impressive! Thanks a lot. When I cut I was having the "riding cut" in mind, imagine myself riding on something and then casually cut through the bottle with fingers power only.

NS ultra sharp extra thin katana vs forearm difficulty target, using combat cuts (smaller motion, less powerful). LSA 1095 DS vs upper arm / shin difficulty target, left side finishing cuts.

Testing my new technique with Lily maru. 2 cuts failed to fully cut the targets due to my measure problem. I'm used to using longer swords, thus I had to move closer for a katana to cut through after realizing I was out of reach.
