Hi All, I have a Police Hanger but the scabbard, while being in pretty good condition, is missing the lower brass fitting. Can anyone out there make me a new one or know of someone that could? Also, the tip of the scabbard is cut off, would this be let out any moisture, or to let the leather 'breath'? The grip is in excellent condition, which makes me think that it has been re-furbished/replaced. If it has whoever did it is very skilled in their work. The leather washer also looks recent. Any help/advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated..... Steve.

Nice hanger. I really like these sidearms. I’m not an expert, but your grip looks original to me. I’ve only ever seen one scabbard whose chape was intentionally cut. Seems like a bad idea to me, but I have no historical info on the subject. I think your chape just fell off with age. My British police hanger seems to have had the scabbard chape replaced, though I don’t know where it was sourced from.

Thanks a lot Pellius. Would you mind sending me some photos of the chape...?

If you mean the chape of my British police hanger scabbard; sure. 🙂
If you mean the one that was cut, I don’t have a pic. I saw it on the internet a few years back. 😕

I have been unexpectedly out of the office for the last few days.
I should be in on Monday or Tuesday. I’ll snap a few pics then.

The hilt looks completely original to me. Many of these swords were hardly carried or used, some even just sitting in armouries until eventually being sold off.
Note also that most never had wire around the hilt, although some (officers' swords in particular) did.

Many thanks Pellius and Rick. I have ordered a thin sheet of brass so i might have a go myself.
Rick, i did wonder how they could be in such good condition, many thanks for the information.
I really like these, i'm on the lookout for another one.
One more question..... How were the the grips made, is it ray skin wrapped and glued to a shaped and grooved wooden core?

I don't know how the grips are made, but would guess something like you said. Here's a fancy, officers' version:
