Hi everybody,
So I've updated my collection over the last few months and this is what I've aquired. Some will be new others are mainstays in the collection and some were in the collection but are new models repurchased after selling my originals. I'm going to break it down by type or era so here it is the new and improved collection!
Other Weapons:
Windlass Viking Spear: New purchase, saw this on a deal of the day and had to pick it up, dont know why never been interested in spears but I felt I needed something not a sword in my collection. Spear head is well done and durable the shaft is just a stained 5ft shovel handle but it works though I guess its a little short.
Windlass Frankish Axe: New purchase, bought this together with the Viking Spear. Again just had an itch to get something unqiue to add to the collection and what better than a early period hand axe. Fit and finish is good on this one though the head looks more like a tool axe than a weapon. Quite thick like a maul almost. The handle is fixed well but its stain is glossy and slick. Remedied that with some leather cord.
EUROPEAN DAGGERS:
Windlass Coustille Dagger: One of the new purchases, always wanted one of these but never got to purchase one due to them being discontinued. When KultofAthena reissued them I picked one up. Awesome long dagger but has the staining issue from the scabbard.
Windlass Munich Companion Dagger: Another new purchase, got this as a combo from the Classifieds with the Munich Sword. Awesome dagger. Well made, fit and finish is excellent and handling is great.
JAPANESE SWORDS:
Musashi Shirakawa 1060 DH Katana, Dragon Model Burgundy Saya: This one I have had for nearly a decade, nice sword put together very well for the price point, which was under a $100 at the time of purchase from SwordnArmory.
SwordnArmory 1065 Ninja-to: Purchased this one a few months before the Musashi. Nice simple Ninja-to, the saya hasn't held up well over the years and needed shimmed and due to being quite weak needed taped at a crack. Tsuka was recently replaced with a Ronin Dojo Pro Tsuka, blade has held up and is TH and durable.
Dragon King Hana Katana :One of the new purchases this year. Decided it was time to give the sub$500 katana market a chance again and went with this one. Absolutely love it, fit and finish is superb and the tsuka is shaped perfectly in my opinion. The T-10 blade is a little low level on the polish but is strong and well made.
Ryujin T-10 Custom Wakizashi : One of the new purchases, decided to get a budget Wakizashi to make a daisho with my Hana. Found this one here on the classifieds. Was a little disappointed with the fit and finish of this one, as the Tsuka is a cutdown katana tsuka and the furniture were misshapen. Took some DIY to get it in shape.
Ronin Dojo Pro Model # 15 Katana: I originally purchased this sword a few years ago, traded it two years ago for the Baskethilt in my collection. When it came available on the classifieds I decided it needed to come back home. Its a unique model to the standard Dojo Pro having a shorter 26" blade as opposed to the standard 28" blade length of other Dojo Pro Models. The tsuka was showing some wear and tear so I replaced it with a new Dojo Pro Tsuka.
Hanwei Iga Ninja-To: purchased this summer, this is a sword that has always been on my wish list but between it regularly being out of stock and my past lack of funds was never able to aquire it before. Made an offer to William Swigger and he accepted. Beautiful sword that handles superbly. Now one of my favorites in the collection.
EUROPEAN SWORDS:
Windlass Classic Hoplite Sword: Purchased this one last year from the Classifieds here. Nice sturdy Xiphos with a wood core scabbard. Upgraded it with a new leather overwrap with risers.
Windlass Mainz Pattern Gladius: Another new purchase, got it this month when it was on DOD, awesome little sword but the plastic handle leaves much to be desired. Remedied that with a nice leather overwrap that matched the hilt color.
EARLY PERIOD ARMING SWORDS (VIKING):
Windlass Sticklestad Viking Sword: Another new purchase. Got this one earlier this year from KultofAthena. Really like this one, fit and finish was great, wood scabbard is attractive and fits well and the blade is well made and durable. The only issue I had was the shape of the grip wasnt to my liking so I reshaped and rewrapped the grip.
