I know most folks use variable output battery chargers for their power source, but reviews on these devices are all over the place. To the point they all seem to be simultaneously complete garbage, and dependable old workhorses which will keep working for decades.
I'm sure some of the pro and hobbyist craftsmen around here must have some good advice to offer. I have quite a bit of experience with using chemical etchants, but electro-etching can do things a PVC tube of ferric chloride or tub of hydrochloric acid cannot.
What are the best power sources for electro-etching?

I tend to just use either a 6V battery for shallower stuff or an older car battery for more aggressive stuff.
I think Brenno (FableBlades) also does (or did) use a car battery.

I made a little system for my etching needs consisting of a 6v battery and q tips. It's not ideal, and one does use MANY q tips, but it gets the job done. I just put an interesting tv show on in the background and get a drink with a straw.
