It has taken me nearly a month to complete it but its finally done. 14" of 5160, an 8" tang with 5 pins that also has 3 layers of Fiberglass. This thing is a beast. Hair shaving sharp. I hope to take a Bear with it this year. Attachments:

Looks great. What type of wood did you use for the shaft.

That's a cool looking spear.
Where is the fiberglass used in the construction?
...also, you should probably consider breaking it in on something a bit more forgiving than a bear. Since you went with a tanged design, instead of socketed one, it would definitely be good to find out if it can handle the force of striking a bear without splitting the haft down the grain (or along a laminated join, if there are any).

Very good advice Zen. You can see a little of the fiberglass under the leather.

The handle is hickory. Zen, that crossed my mind, thats why i did the fiberglass wrap around the tang. It also have 5 pins holding it in place and is glued with epoxy. I hunt with river cane arrows and knapped points so i have some experience binding things ;-)

Holy wow, that thing is a monster. Woe to the bear who finds itself on the receiving end. Awesome job.

Looks like it could intimidate home invaders as well. In California, we have large feral hogs...there have been those who used dogs and spears. RinC

I did end up taking a 302# black bear with this one. It worked far better than anticipated.

Obviously the spear did what you wanted. But how did it perform if you know what I mean. If you want to get graphic you can pm me. I’m not a shrinking violet. Just really curious how it performed and how you felt.
