So....after a hair-raising moment when the shippers sent me the wrong link which showed my package being delivered somewhere 150 miles away, my purchases from *that* auction have arrived here in the UK.
The AN XI HC in my lot was said to be stiff in the scabbard and it is really, really stiff (it must come out as the catalogue photo shows it out) - to the point that I'm a) wondering how best to pull it out without potentially damaging something and b) how to stop it getting so stuck in future. All three (P1796, this and a Dutch M1813 No2 LC) need a clean so that'll be next, once I've sorted this problem.
Any advice guys?

Done it. Now to work out where it sticks and sort it out...

Welcome aboard
I had one sabre that came stuck. It is possible it was not the original scabbard
Holding it upside down, a foot on either side and gradual tugging with determination. Alternately, in a vice or jig to straddle the scabbard. If you know someone in an auto body shop, some libation offered would get them to break out some hydraulics and the frame straightener. I would say avoid mallets and prying.
As to re-insertion, first see if you can check the liners. Determine where on the blade it starts binding. You can get the liners out, it is not something I have done. If it is right at the throat, pull that off and see what you are dealing with.
Good luck.
Cheers GC

Cheers and thanks for the reply. Got a good workout tugging at it. In the end I had some nice thick buff leather, so put that on the face of the hilt and then a flat shaped piece of ply on top of that and tapped around and around with a rubber mallet and hey presto. It's sticking as the blade thickens towards the hilt, about 6" from full insertion. I'll try some form of removable marker on the blade to check where its binding and then see if the liner comes out if I undo the two screws at the throat, though the throat may stop that. Then a washer, then a clean... hard work this!

You could get lucky and its just an internal crap build up that can be removed... Never happens to me, mine are always as difficult as possible

Took the screws out, pushed the throat out and assorted splinters of the liner came out. Tiny bit of filing of the throat, flattened a couple of dents in the throat internal faces, aligned the two halves of the liners as the throat went back in and all done.

Congratulations on your purchases, a semi-related question if I may, why do you refer to it as *that* auction?
I found a promotional video of the auction on Youtube and thought about sharing it here but now I'm wondering if that's permitted.

Apols, haven't been on here a while.
I referred to it as *that* auction as there were lots of comments on a range of forums, rolling eyes that they'd missed out, or rolling eyes that the number of sabres coming onto the market would suppress the prices of similar swords.
