I know most modern day replicas don't handle as well as originals. And as I haven't located any originals online for sale, I'm going to go with sourcing a replica. The question then becomes who makes the best version of the french imperial light cavalry sabre? As I understand it, Universal comes in a lil on the soft side from what I have seen on Skall's vids regarding their products. Empire is more for display (so I have heard) Is Military Heritage better? Heard they were related to Universal. Photo included to help avoid any confusion.

This is a Hussar sabre? Cannot help you here. Light Cavalry is this one: As far as I know all of the replica sabres of the brands/retailers you mentioned are made by Universal. The ones from Empire Costume too, but to the better specs of Mr. Guinhut. Mr. Guinhut always says his swords are only for display to fend of any claims by socker moms with kids sporting bloody heads. That is all. His sabres are just as ,,battle ready'' as the rest of them, although it would be a waste to go cutting with one of his nice blue and gild blades. That said in the case of his AN XI Universal dropped the ball as the side bars of the first batch, maybe the second batch will be better, look squashed. Even more than on some of the originals. Mr. Guinhut was quite angry about that. For the rest though his copy is the best. Again, as far as I know. The replica world is a mysterious one and the Guinhut part of that world even more so. We spend many a server's hard disk (!@!) on finding out what exactly he did or did not and why (not) etc. Cheers.

Good find Uhlan.
Chingon you might want to speak to Jordan Williams regarding EC swords. Going by memory he had one that the tang broke on while cutting water bottles and the response that he got from the company was that their swords were not designed for cutting and that water bottles were tough and abusive targets and refused any type of composition. But that is strictly by memory and I’m sure Jordan would be glad to give details.

For the price the temper will cut without worrying about failure and it comes sharpened. The most accurately handling of the line ANXI was the recent Empire Costume LC. India does not issue a sharpened blade because of their laws. Temper in production is an issue. SBG, J Williams sharpened and cut with his and the blade failed. I thought he said the foible snapped. Yves Guinhut finally admitted he has his stuff produced in India but will not say by who. I don't seriously trust any of the shops as to who actually does their forging. The issue is how deep you want to invest. Antiques will run you 1200-1600.00. You can buy multiple replicas and save overhead. For different reasons I've done both. PS the first pic here is the Weapons Edge India Imperial Guards LC saber. It's of an older vintage Hungarian model type. WEI and Universal Sword India are run by the Chouhan family cousins. USI has won the publicity war in the last 6 years and is marketed in the US by Kult of Athena. I believe that Military Heritage is still using WEI. ( Cold steel primarily uses Dynasty Forge China and Windlass Steelcraft.)

Didn't know that Jordans E.C. sabre broke. Bummer. Any idea when this happened?

Didn't know that Jordans E.C. sabre broke. Bummer. Any idea when this happened? He mentioned it about a month ago but it wasn't long after purchase. Guinhut was devastated and took immediate action to satisfy his client. (Oh wait, then I woke up...)

But that is strictly by memory and I’m sure Jordan would be glad to give details. That is what I had read about EC and heard nothing further if they had improved since then. And @uhlan I am going by the description used by Military Heritage, as follows: "This sabre was first issued in 1803 to Napoleon's "enfants cheris" (cherished children): the famous Chasseur a Cheval de la Garde. Where Napoleon went so did his Chasseur a Cheval de la Garde. From Austerlitz to Waterloo, Napoleon's cherished children fought hard for their emperor. Because of its popularity as an elegant and effective weapon, this sabre became adopted by others in Napoleon's Imperial Guard. These units included:
- Horse Artillery of the Imperial Guard - Artillery Train of the Imperial Guard - the Dutch or Red Lancers of the Guard - 2nd Regiment of Cheveau-Légere Lancers of the Guard
In addition some Hussar Regiments carried a very similar sabre but with minor variations in the scabbard. "
@ Dave Kelly I figured originals would be up there in price. Hence the asking for which company producing the better quality replica of what I posted the photo of. Have you heard of any regular issues with WEI's tempering?
There seems to be cons and pros to all the choices between WEI/MH and USI/EC. Looks like more investigating will be required here. Thanks for all the input so far, it has all been helpful.

I have a WE sword and have experienced no problems. But I can say that about my Windlasses, CS, Universals, Hanweis, and any that I missed. I will say that I don’t see how far I can push them and the maximum they will take just for the sake of doing it. I treat them with respect and they have served me satisfactory.
