So I've been on a bit of a WWI history kick lately and it came to my attention that Windlass Steelcrafts actually makes a reproduction of the United States Model 8 Expiremental helmet, which was trialed during the war by U.S forces. I know this is pushing it a bit for the usual topics of discussion for this forum but considering just how "medieval" this helmet looks, I figured it was a worthy topic to bring up. Specifically, has anybody got any details about this reproduction? Windlass, to my knowlege, generally makes fairly good stuff. They're no Albion or anything, but from what I've heard they're pretty decent quality, especially for their prices. But for this particular item, I can't seem to find any reviews or information apart from what's available from Windlass themselves. As far as I know, this is the only existing reproduction of the Model 8 helmet. There are a few genuine versions floating about in collections, of course, along with lots of other weird expiremental WWI helmets, but this is the only one I can think of that has replica in production. Anybody know anything about this repro'? Or better yet, own one? Very curious because it's a pretty neat looking helmet. You could probably add it to a traditional European armour harness and to the untrained eye it would fit right in. www.windlass.com/products/wwi-model-8-experimental-helmet/
