I was wondering if anyone has one of "The Mad Piper" (Donnie Shearer's) Scottish basket-hilted broadswords which he called the "Jacobite hilt" on his website? I would be willing to buy one of these if anyone has one that they would be willing to sell.
This is the only sword of this type which I am interested in buying.

From what I've read Donnie Shearer was a US Marine veteran that produced basket hilts. Semi-famous. Used other blades, didn't make those himself, but made basket hilts to attach to those blades.
If in your wanderings you come across a good (cheap budget) basket hilt, would you PM me please? There's a scarcity of those available.

He used Del Tin blades for his swords, which in a way is fitting since the blades for Scottish basket hilts were imported. Remind me, what's your budget, and did you want a sharp sword? |

My budget is cheap - $250 USD for a sharp used blade. As such I keep a permanent lookout for the out of production Cold Steel model. This one. CS Basket HiltWould consider something similar. I prefer brass or steel for the basket, don't care much for blued or blackened. That wouldn't be a deal breaker though. More important would be a cheap price and decent specs. |

Yes it's a basket hilt. I don't remember what name he called it, but according to the invoice it's model SW-13. I bought it from him in 2004.
