Agreed. I don't think I could sit through it again. It's too bad it was Oliver Reed's final film (though I do wonder is he even needed embalming, if you know what I mean). He got into a drinking & arm wrestling contest at a pub with British Navy men (beat 5 at the wrestling), then the 61 year old collapsed. Lol. He died doing what he loved. We all should be so lucky.

He and the late great Keith Moon (the loon) were drinking buddies, among MANY others. He was told to abstain from drinking while doing Gladiator by the director Scott, but did his thing anyway on the weekends.

Hello, New to the forum. I have created a number of the swords from Gladiator. I had access to a number of screen used brass details I was able to duplicate. Love these swords.

Welcome to the forum! That is just awesome. And great job making your own versions of these swords. Did you build them from scratch? Modify existing swords? What materials did you use (forged blades, metals, resin, etc?). Thanks a ton for sharing your pictures

Thanks. The hilt decorations were made from casting of the screen used props. I made brass replica of them. The guard and pommel are resin casting of the screen used wooden parts. The Blades are wall hangers. These were taken off existing gladius style roman swords. The closest accurate blade is the replica of the Windlass Tigris of Gaul sword. The Commodus sword hilt is made from an existing Roman replica sword the prop dept. just modified and added brass furniture trim and the circle of eagles. The handles on them all are casting of the screen used props too.
I have made a few with Battle ready full tang blade. I sourced those from a gentleman that does blades but was pretty costly.

The closest i've seen are made by Windlass, but years after "Gladiator" was released lol.
