I watched "Gladiator" for the umpteenth time last night. Easily one of my favourite movies. I have collected a few of the replicas over the years (only missing the Axe of Tigris and the Arena Sword). However, I was thinking, quite surprised, and a little saddened, that no one ever made replicas of: 1) Sword of Commodus, 2) Sword of the Germanic Chief. Sword of Commodus: Sword of Germanic Chief: I mean... over the years we've had replicas from Marto, Factory-X, and Windlass (twice?). Kudos to Windlass for adding more items than Marto or Factory-X produced... just it's a shame these 2 replicas were never made. Anyone know if there are any unofficial replicas out there??

can always ask fableblades to do u one Fable Blades has always been on my wish list. Guess this could be a "2 birds, 1 stone" situation lol. Won't be for a while though... I asked the question moreso out of curiosity at the moment.

The Commodus Sword looks a lot like Windlass' Centurion or Battlecry Centurion Gladius but of course with different colors.

I completely forgot about the Battlecry Centurion Gladius! Looking at more detailed pictures, the guard and pommel are the exact same as the Commodus sword! Hhmm… if I can find one cheap, maybe it's a potential future project! (Yes, I was more excited than I should have been when I saw the resemblance lol).

Makes you wonder though as they probably had a Commodus in their Gladiator Movie line but never released it as they had the molds for the hilt and of course made the swords used in the movie.

Hhmm that's a good point. If it's the case, i'm wondering why they didn't go through with it... I mean, they had THREE swords for Maximus lol. I was discussing with someone from a different forum just a few days ago about this topic. Especially Windlass, how they use spare parts from their movie swords to either create unlicensed versions afterwards, or something else similar... For example: KOH Tiberius became Sword of Raymond, KOH Jerusalem became King's Sword, KOH Odo became some type of migration sword, Princess Bride Pirate sword became Marauder's Sword, Robin Hood John's became Pendragon sword, and Robin Hood's became the Tancred. I'm sure there are some i'm missing... However, this may be the first time I've seen it the other way 'round.... where the parts used were from an un-released movie replica lol.

To my knowledge, no one has ever made the Germanic Chief's sword. The suggestion above was referring to Fable Blades : fableblades.com/ a custom swordmaker. As per the Tigris Helmet... lol, I always wished to get one myself. I'm guessing it's just too complex of a design with the moving face plate. Plus, it's just massive! For the mass production market it probably cannot be made from any kind of metal in order to keep costs down. Look at the larger helmets from Lord of the Rings and the Hound's form Game of Thrones - all fiberglass or polyresin. Something that Marto and Windlass don't do (at least not that I've seen). Hopefully one day someone at least attempts a metal replica!

Yeah I saw a prop replica maker made one years ago but never saw any since It’s a intricate helmet I would love one to add to the collection though As for the Germanic sword i don’t know why windlass didn’t make One looks easy enough for them Might hit up fable blades down the road

Oh nice! Let me know if you ever come across that prop replica maker's work again. Would love to see the finished product. Do you remember what material was used?
Yeah, the Germanic sword would have been perfect for Windlass, as they experimented with their own Migration era pieces afterwards lol.
I just thought it would have been a good idea to have 3 "bad guy" swords to match the "3 Maximus" swords! Spatha paired with Germanic. Arena sword paired with Tigris (even though it wasn't the sword used in that fight). Saviour sword paired with Commodus.

Oh yeah... I chatted with Daryl from TexasSPR years ago about this. He was planning on making a custom Tigris Helm. He even purchased a base helmet to being with. But I haven't seen any updates... i'm guessing increasing workload, personal life, and now this pandemic just got in the way. I'll probably bug him again in the future regarding the helm update lol.

The battlecry gladius is a replica of Marcus Aquilla Gladius from the movie (The Eagle) with different colors

I cringed the first time I watched Gladiator, and the second and third times were no better. I really wanted to like the movie, but they lost me by calling the Emperor "sire" and all the bowing and kneeling (a Roman would rather die than kneel before anybody, least of all the First Citizen). That and the Roman army simply bum-rushing the enemy with no thought towards any order of battle, plus we know in great detail the life of Commodus- which was nothing like what the movie portrayed whatsoever. Lots of other wrong detail in every square inch of the film, but I'm willing to let most of those go for the sake of storytelling and it's Hollywood, so it's not going to be perfect anyways. But to get such major details completely and absolutely wrong is inexcusable.

It's too bad it was Oliver Reed's final film (though I do wonder is he even needed embalming, if you know what I mean).

He got into a drinking & arm wrestling contest at a pub with British Navy men (beat 5 at the wrestling), then the 61 year old collapsed.
