I am confused about then in reference to their scabbards. Are they just hardened leather with metal lockets and chapes or is there a wooden core underneath all that? The only other brand I've seen make a hard leather scabbard with metal throat and lockets is Lutel and that is it. I would like to know because I really like the Windlass Arming sword and am thinking of having it customized but I want to know if the scabbard has a wooden core or not. Thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure all (unless otherwise specified, as some are) are a heavy leather with a steel throat and chape.

Yea.. most of the recent Windlass models - apart from the 'Kingdom of Heaven' series - comes with leather only scabbards, I'm afraid Only some of their 'Discontinued' early models such as the Early Chinese War Sword & Patton Sabre had wooden/wood core scabbards, it seems.

Actually...some newer windlasses are being sold with wooden scabbards. The archers falchion is one I believe. However, often windlass does not tell you if it's leather or wood, so if you want a sword that just happens to come with a wooden scabbard, you've got a bit of luck.

I have yet to see a wood core windlass scabbard.

Yeah, most are just crappy leather. Some are wood though. My first two swords (daggers rather) that were made by Windlass had wooden covered with leather scabbards.

The wood core scabbard that came with my Sword of Guy is quite nice. Although I scraped off the ugly coating on the leather chape and locket and dyed the whole thing. The only problem is it doesnt hold the sword firmly. that could be remedied by gluing a thin shim or two in there

As far as I know they're all hardened leather. Though I've noticed that some of them can feel remarkably close to a wooden scabbard in density.

My Windlass Damascus Viking came with a nice wooden scabbard, actually much nicer than either the Darksword or Gen 2 scabbards I have received. There is a photo of it somewhere in the Viking Sword Reviews.
