Flying Phoenix Jian - a beautiful weapon

For some time, I have had the great pleasure of conversing with KK of LKChen Swords. I had been hoping to purchase one of their blades but for many reasons it didn't work out that way.
The other day though, I had a knock at the door. Since we are in stay at home mode here in Wisconsin the delivery man had more reason than usual to do the "Dump and Run" of a long thin package. I didn't recall ordering anything (my toy money budget is non-existent right now! ) but the lables said it was from China and I got more than a little excited.
I received a Flying Phoenix Jian to test and comment on. I am not a long established practitioner of Chinese martial arts, all my experience is in HEMA. That said, I am enjoying moving forward in my learning.
I have found what seems to me a decent beginners book in "The Art of Chinese Swordsmanship" by Zhang Yun and have begun reading it. I hope to begin actually working with it but the weather here in Northern Wisconsin has not been cooperating. There is, for example, a thunderstorm this morning and I would rather not hold up a blade and make like Ben Franklin's Kite!
The Flying Phoenix Jian is a 34" bladed hand and a half gripped Jian. The blade is long, lean and strong made of a pattern welded combination of 1065 and T-8 steels. The pattern itself is glorious:
The sword has an excellent feel - it is light (1lb 12oz) fast and well balanced. Due to the weight the POB is further forward than I expected but again, due to the weight it is in the right spot. Since I do not know any proper Chinese forms, I have exercised with it as if it were my bastard sword waster and that has proven quite interesting
With luck and weather permitting, I'll do some cutting later this week and follow up this thread at that time.
