Scabbard customization

With my wife working with me, I attempted to recover my scabbard with something a bit more pleasing. I wanted to try to - inexpensively- recover my scabbard with suede, and finish it with a 'wrapped look'. I'm finished, and pleased with it, but with some compromises to total success: it was not inexpensive, as buying suede proved harder than I would have imagined. Even at the local Tandy Leather, pickings were very limited. I got a nice royal blue for my next one there, and spent $25 on a useless hunk of green that wasn't at all the hunter green I wanted - bad purchase on my part. Don't whack me for it, the lovely missus already did that! But, the royal they wouldn't halve, so I bought a whole piece, enough to do several scabs if I wanted. The green I went with was two little panels, one halved to make two, sewn together, purchased at Hobby Lobby. I also bough a few 1/2" black suede strips, only to not want them after all.
It took a morning and afternoon to work it all up for two people. I got some helpful tips from Brian at DBK Custom Swords which were very helpful, and I benefited from his experience. I don't think he had any real reason to help me, but Brian was ever the gentleman and surely both saved me time, and helped me to a better outcome. Thanks again!
In the end, this was something for me and my wife to work on together for fun, a nice change from the labor projects she's beenmaking me do gently suggesting this summer. For the time and money spent, you'd be better off sending it to DBK, and enjoying a cool drink while Brian labors on it, and receive a truly quality product that you love to show off for little more than you'd have spent doing it yourself, with all the possible errors and hurdles in the work avoided!
Take a look. It's only a cheapie scabbard, so I was OK with it.
