Hello, I'm brand new to the forum and just made this account. I'm seeking any help I can get in the identification of an old katana that I'm in possession of. Back Story: I obtained this sword when I was about 16 years old. It was back in the early days of ebay where you could get all sorts of odd things and there was no regulation. As any young boy I was enamored with swords and their history. One day I saw this sword being sold for 1$ and there were no bids until the very end so I decided to make a bid and win the auction. I'm now interested in trying to identify the authenticity of the sword. Most of the ebay posting was in Chinese, but the English part claimed it was from the Qing Dynasty era. I'm erring on the possibility that it's a fake since there are factory numbers stamped on the tang, but then again industrialization was growing during this era, or maybe some kind of 'frankensword' as it has been obviously altered with the addition of a hidden dagger in the handle . I'm interested in any help I can get. Thanks everyone: Here is a link to my google photo album, I had trouble inserting pictures directly to the forum: photos.app.goo.gl/EhwaRrCPZBRzP6Nw5Thanks again!

Yeah, sorry, it's a modern mass produced decorative piece. Not a katana, or a functional sword of any kind, and probably highly dangerous to swing around... On the bright side, for once the price was right!

On the bright side, for once the price was right! Hah, I couldn't agree more. I just needed a confirmation to my doubts. I've been itching to turn it into a hobby project and refinish it so I can put it on my wall. Thanks for the replies! You guys are awesome.
