My first wall-hanger was a full daisho inspired by the highlander sword. I wasn't a big fan of the show or anything, but when you are young and see three swords for thirty bucks, you feel you need to buy it 😂

From wallhangers to wallflowers... without wandering off the topic of useless eye candy. Back in the day the big debate was Penthouse or Hustler.... Then came along the internet XD

Hmm, that one sounds a bit...niche. Comedic scifi/fantasy was quite the niche thing, back then, yes. Like, as niche as swords or collectible anime figurines today. If I was alive back then I would have been into that stuff lol

The kids today have no idea how good they have it... Im sure the boomers said that about the gen X at some point though as well Literally every single generation since the invention of language has lamented that the kids these days are lazy, don't respect their elders, have no idea how good they have it... and at the same time, paradoxically, that everything is changing for the worse. (And, just to be absolutely clear, every single generation has been full of crap.)

For the record..I was referring to the advancement from hard to get and hide magazines as compared to on demand porn available on a kids smart phone. It was a tongue in cheek reference to how technology has made so many things better and more efficient as compared to my youth.

And we're all better off for it, even if a degree of treasure hunt romance is gone out of the thing...

I stumbled over a rather nice film, many years ago, that I later destroyed because everything was online now and I didn't want to get caught with any physical media. Never have found the film again, and regret it to this day. Anyway, speaking of the advent of the internet, it's also made it much easier to find good swords and learn to distinguish from wallhangers.

I got rid of a lot of “stuff” I had because I didn’t want anyone to find it when I died. Not that I would care at that point, but you know. And before you ask Lord Newport, NO, there is nothing I want to share about that with you guys or anyone else. THAT’S why I threw them away!🤭😈

You know, one thing the internet did ruin for me was collectible card games (or Magic: the Gathering, specifically). It was fun when me and all my friends were buying blind card packs, seeing what we'd find and making the best of what we'd got, and playing for ante - sort of a roguelike vibe to it all, you know? But then everybody got online and suddenly we all knew exactly what was out there, what could be done with it, and were able to just straight up order whatever card we might want, and nobody used the goofy stuff like Unglued or played for ante anymore because each card was worth a precisely quantified amount of money. It got serious, and most of the surprise factor and element of discovery and thus a lot of the fun for me just went *POOF*.
Come to think of it, kinda the opposite of what I guess happened with swords and other such things for a lot of people (myself included).

Same with Pokémon cards for me, back in 4th grade kids would bet their lunch money on our class tournaments XD super fun to watch and super intense to be in but when you won like once out of the year you were the coolest kid in class for the few days XD
