I thought the katana in the photo was the replacement. I have not seen a wire brushed pattern as such. It’s more pleasing than a sine wave pattern. I question the proper side the menukis are located on for a right handed person. Nope I got that and they gave me a discount off future stuff

If that’s a fake Hamon I wouldn’t mind that so much. The ones I’ve had with fake hamon were wire brushed with a definite pattern. Most fake hamon are a notare pattern that looks very fake, this one is not so it looks better

Menuki placement is mostly up to the owner. I have had them all over the place collecting nihonto and koshirae. I personally like them under the palms. I'm more concerned about the hidden mekugi. Looks good though. That will be interesting trying to see if the mekugi can be popped out

Yeah, probably won't be an issue, unless it has two(they should be tapered and installed opposite of each other)Just a pain if the ito is really tight. Honestly, really no reason to take them out until they need replacement. It has two lol

I keep thinking I remember reading, once upon a time, that the original function of menuki was to cover the mekugi, anyway. Still seems like a pain, but again, no real need to take the sword apart if there's nothing wrong with it. I have only taken one of mine apart for re etching hamon. Otherwise just wipe the blade with alcohol and apply new oil
