Hello,
I'm new to the SBG forum. I used to participate quite a bit on SFI and MyArmoury about 10ish years ago. Also trained for several years with an ARMA affiliated group before HEMA really came into being. I started like a typical noob and bought a bunch of cheap SLO wallhangers before knowing any better and then sold them all to upgrade to an Albion Squire Line 13th Century Great Sword and later bought an Albion Duke. Unfortunately had to sell both years ago to pay off various credit card and student loan debt
I'm getting back into the sword hobby again after a hiatus. The only sword I currently have is another cheap SLO wallhanger that was given to me as a Christmas present. I figure I'll keep it because it looks interesting and will be useful for teaching purposes and side-by-side comparisons later when I've saved up enough to buy a new "Real" sword. Probably from Atrim, Tinker, Albion, Lockwood or a similar quality maker.
I figured I should get back into the community before buying something so I can see where the state of the art is and what kind of changes have occurred in the market over the last decade.

Hello and welcome! I'm pretty new here as well. I'm mostly interested in Japanese swords, but appreciate just about anything with a sharp edge.

Hi alexkjren and welcome (back) to the forum. I think there are a lot more intersting swords in the sub 500 area than 10 years ago.

Hi alexkjren and welcome (back) to the forum. I think there are a lot more intersting swords in the sub 500 area than 10 years ago. Yes, I've noticed the Hanwei Tinker and Kingston Atrim lines. They definitely look like excellent swords in the $200-300 class.
Right now, I plan to go all the way to the $1000+ range because the wife's given permission for 1 sword for now. After which I might be stuck with just that one for a while so in my case it's better to go big or go home!
Plus I figure if I can get her to try cutting with a top end quality sword, I'm more likely to convince her to let me get more at a later point.
