Not sure if all of you can relate to this but I know some can. I was up last night at like 3 am eating sardines out of a can because I was hungry. What is your favorite late night snack. Been there, done that*. More than once. Better is sardines in tomato sauce on a couple of slices of buttered bread if I can be bothered. Even better is tins of mackerel instead of sardines.
As to my favourite late night snack...
Absolute favourite is left over meaty pizza, hot or cold. If we don't have that, 2nd place goes to a Mattesson's smoked pork sausage, nuked for 2 minutes, with a chunk of extra mature cheddar cheese and some Coleman's mustard. Plus/minus a slice or bread or sausage bun.
*It always makes me think of the scene in the movie "The 'Burbs":

RickD, thanks for the clip. Had forgotten that scene, been so long since I’ve seen it. Will have to watch again soon.

When I woke up during the night and had trouble getting back to sleep several things would do the trick. A snack was one. I had no preference most any cold food would do, crackers, cheese, bread, peanut butter, rum, chips, you name it. I cut it out as it was causing weight gain. Ya seems like the same case of weight gain for me. I just get hungry.

Absolutely cold pizza if it’s available. It’s usually not so I go for a big slug of V8.

I find that the temperature of leftover pizza is a polarizing preference. I’ve never understood reheating it. The more solid texture of cold pizza is very satisfying. My brother in law froze all of the leftover pizza when I saw him last so he could reheat it at some later date. I was greatly displeased.

Pickles can vary wildly. Vinegar vs salt brine etc... Just saying... Sorry you can't eat them, but that leaves more for me.

I know this'll probably make some of you want to barf, but when I get a late night hungry going on---I like potted meat and saltine crackers with a glass of buttermilk. Vienna sausages are good too---with a little Tabasco sauce. Beanie-Weeny also! I'm an old Texas oil-field hand, and this was the kind of stuff we could throw in the truck and it would keep FOREVER. It's mighty good at 3 in the morning when you just capped a well and you're 1000 miles from nowhere.

He was from Texas, I’m not. And yes all you mentioned makes me want to 🤮. But whatever gets you back to sleep right.

It's a little less bitey and more creamy. It also makes fantastic buttermilk pie, which is my Kryptonite. Give me a buttermilk pie and I'll eat the whole damned thing.
