Something that is not just a wall hanger at a decent price from a good brand? Anyone know of anything.

Thanks for the links! $475 one looks nice but I’d have to save and put other swords on hold for that one. Wonder what SoN would charge to make one like it.

I was going to say if the regular DSA ones catch your interest - grab them from KOA. Sadly, both regular versions (darkened and polished) seem to be Backordered on KOA. And even sadder - the "darkened finish" version seems to be discontinued from DSA's website. Which has me thinking the polished version might not be around much longer... (wouldn't hurt to shoot them an email). Guess 2nd hand will be the way to go, unless you spend the extra coin for a custom. I'll post here if I come across any more!

Seems like a lot of the lord of the rings swords are pricey. I know that United cutlery makes replicas but they are stainless and therefore can not be used safely.

My pleasure - hope you find what you're looking for Sadly, United Cutlery and Weta are the only 2 officially licensed versions from the movies. Kit Rae did an amazing job replicating the weapons from the props in order for UC to be able to mass produce them. Sadly, like you said, they're stainless steel. I know UC has now been making carbon steel swords (even a longsword!) - but I haven't heard any rumors if they'd ever consider making their LOTR lineup with carbon steel... But on the other hand, i'm not sure if they'd change the hilt construction at all anyways... As much as I love the accuracy of Kit Rae's / UC's work - part of me always wished Windlass got the LOTR license. The fit & finish and quality control might have suffered a little (at least at the beginning) - but they'd give us functional affordable LOTR replicas.

I agree, I would rather a company who can make them useable and make sure they perform well be in charge over one that will make it pretty but not useable. If you think about Thranduil’s sword, you could make an awesome carbon steel model just like the UC ones as his sword is all metal. In fact most of the LOTR swords are very similar in design to some of windlass battlecry line or hanwei tinkers with custom fittings. Most could be kept with the same look and still perform well with a 9260 or 5160 blade. Maybe one of these days a brand will arrive with a glowing light and the rohirrim so to speak lol with good models of all the swords that UC did.

Haha I agree. I mean for the Hobbit replicas, they're so outlandish that they had to be replicated as wall hangers (some couldn't even be made out of stainless steel, and instead had to use resin!). For me, part of the appeal of the LOTR swords is that they are based off actual swords. It's like a real historical sword, but with a touch of fantasy in order to make it stand out from the crowd. Which lends them to be able to be made like any other 'real' sword... which DSA did. It sounds like for you, second hand DSA versions might be the way to go! They pop up on eBay every now and then. Some models are still in production by DSA as well - check out KOA's website.
I've seen other companies make functional replicas inspired by the movie swords, but for legalities they have to be somewhat different. From all the ones I've seen - DSA's are the closest to the movie versions, but keep in mind they are not allowed to be 100% accurate.

Ya you can tell the witch Kings pommel on the dsa one is a bit off. They could probably do orcrist out of wood or some kind of bone but it would have to have some design change as well. That’s why I love my windlass agincourt, it is like a budget nazgul sword lol

Hhmm… Glamdring is 47 5/8" with a 35 1/4" blade = Hand and a Half. Anduril is 52 7/8" with a 40 5/8" blade = Longsword. To be fair, i'm only (very) recently getting into Medieval Swords, so i'm sure many people here could answer this with more authority than myself haha.
