Hi peeps! I'm new to this site and have been all over the map on here checking out everything and see that I can start a thread.. Anywho, to make a long story short, I took Iaido for only about 70 something classes then my health started acting up pretty bad so I did have to stop unfortunately. I've moved since then and have been in Florida for about 18 months and there is nothing around here regarding Iaido and or Kenjutsu, but I've purchased just a shirasaya and would like to persue some Iaido again and def have fun learning the katas of Kenjutsu for now. Thing is I would have to go off either books or Dvds... is there any decent instructionals regarding these subjects at all? I've looked on Amazon but I don't really trust random reviews.. cause I've taken muay thai for ever and have seen parts of instructionals and people raved about them online, but they were all awful regarding technique, fundamentals, etc, and I just think the reviews were from all newbies.. so I'm asking out here rather than just go off of some random reviews. Sorry for the novel, and thanks for your time.

Are you interested in joining a school or just trying to learn on your own? There are a fair number of schools in Florida.

I would love to go to a school but I only see that the closest place is about an hour away and i have to be easy on the road just incase my brain decides to seizure out lol! So its me, myself, and I actually. I know learning on my own isn't the same, but I'd still love to do whatever I can.

I've done all that. Thing is they're all an hour and over away from me and driving that far (even though it really isn't) is a no go just incase if I'm driving and my seizures decides to visit. That and i work till 830ish 6 days a week and only have Sundays off as well.

I would suggest you at least contact the closest dojo and see if they have any members living near you that you could car pool with and contribute gas money... a good dojo / sensei is always willing to go the extra mile to get motivated serious students.

I work about 5 minutes away from me so its no biggie. I play with things more dangerous than 1 live blade at work so everything regarding.. i can tell when I'm going down put it that way lol! But if I'm driving 70ish and i cant pull over fast enough then I dont want to take anyone out. I'll give the place in Orlando Orlando call on Monday, what the heck. Won't hurt to ask if anyone is near me. Good idea, brother

Could be worth getting in touch with the various schools, see if any of the instructors are willing to come to you. One day every month or two is better than nothing.

Hard to find (out of print), I liked "Kenjutsu Shodan" by Frederick J. Lovret (ran a dojo out of San Diego back in the 70's)
