Himalayan imports. Stay away from khukuri house. I have an army model from the late 2000s that is awesome, but I put in an order for some of their custom made knives a few years ago and they were all god awful.

You might want to give Windlass and Atlanta Cutlery a look also.

My three from Khukuri House are excellent, but I didn’t ask for anything custom. I don’t know about a Windlass kukri but the knives of theirs that I do have are excellent, I’d say better than their run of the mill swords, and they are the official contractor. ACC offers them. By going to their site and doing a kukri search you find a number of them. However, and I don’t know what you are looking for, if you plug in the following numbers in their search field you will find something very different: 403093, 401164, 403579, 403096, 403094, 401166, 401126, and 750076. For new stuff from official government contractors: 400484, 400578, 400022, and 500448. Hope this helps.

The best modern ones I've handled have been by Tora Blades. Kailash Blades looks very good, too (and cheaper than Tora), but I haven't had a chance to play with their stuff.
Both do traditional stuff at traditional weights, which means lighter than stuff by the usual kukri houses (and HI).
Antique old Nepali military kukris are available from Atlanta Cutlery at a reasonable price. Very trad.

Ah thanks Timo, the Kailash name was escaping me and I like tora but thought they were just a tad bit expensive for me at the moment, I went ahead and ordered a Kailash blade and one from the other Khukuri house that I bought from in early 2000's. We will see how they handle once I get them.

I guess traditional Kukris are those made in Nepal or Taiwan. wildproofgear.com/best-kukri/ Ka-Bar KA 2 - Taiwan Cold Steel - South Africa (these works well despite the country origin) Himalayan imports Ghurkha Kukri/EGKH No.1 - Nepal Schrade SCHKM1/Sog Sogfari/Gerber - China (meh, only in case you are low on budget) Condor Tool 60217/Ontario 6420 OKC - Salvador

Atlanta Cutlery/Museum Replicas still has a bunch of 19th century through WWII models in great, usable condition. I have a late 19th century sirupate that is a fun cutter. I bet the staff is bored enough to do a hand pick for a good one.

There are a few if you are willing to work with them. Madras Arsenal: madrasarsenal.com/ (But they take a long time to ship), my chindit knife comes from here. Khukuri House Handicraft Industry: www.thekhukurihouse.com/ (Well priced but you have to really look on their site for something traditional but they have it. Its sort of like Khukuri Walmart. My Medicine Custom Khukuri comes from here. www.dragonflykhukuriandknives.com/: Another American based khukuri seller that makes good and efficient stuff with appropriate weights for their khukuri, I have a Traveler Khukuri and it is sort of like a treasure to me. Kailash blades: kailashblades.com/ my brother has a general issue khukuri from them and this thing is a beast but really light and whippy. They are sorta like the hipster branch of khukhuri makers.

Kailash Blades has the following informative pop-up notice, which I'm copying in its entirety for historical scholarly reasons:
" Covid-19 Order Delays
UPDATE: 17/04/2020
Hey there all, In an attempt to suppress the spread of Coronavirus the Government of Nepal has initiated a lockdown of the country, which extends to school and bus closures but of particular note is a closure of its borders to both people and goods. So far it has been confirmed that this will extend until the 1st of May, however given the pattern of the spread in other countries already and the level of response which have been necessary there it’s likely that this may extend or at least impact the consistency of us shipping orders for a few months to come.
During this time the team will be following all government guidelines and will shut down operations if required. As of the 23rd of March, The government enacted a full shutdown of the country, with nobody going to work except the essential services of hospitals and supermarkets etc. This was initially stated to be until the 7th of April, however It has been extended twice now and is scheduled to end on the 27th of April. Case numbers are still rising dramatically though almost all are still due to international cases returning home after travel etc. Even after this point it’s possible that this may be extended or reinstated further down the line. Outside of these peak periods of shutdown there’ll likely be bans on any congregation of groups over a certain size. However due to the small number of people required to interact at Kailash’s workshop we shouldn’t be too affected by these secondary limitations. Case numbers here are still very low and we’re helped by the geographic isolation and self sufficiency of the Nation. This strong and early action puts us in the best position possible to stop exponential growth before it takes hold and keep our limited healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
It’s very important to the livelihoods of our staff and our community that we continue taking orders and normally as possible, but we’ll need the support and understanding of our customers. The amount of actual delay on orders from this is very unclear, but we’re suggesting a wait time of approximately 10-12 weeks from having placed the order with the potential for that to double should the situation worsen. We haven’t been able to work for a month now but once we can resume we should be able to get back on track fairly quickly. For any customers affected we’ll be sending out emails with any changes to the situation here and what it’ll mean for orders. The reduced workload will also allow us the opportunity to improve our systems and work on website upgrades, so on the other side of this you can expect to see a Kailash that’s stronger than ever. Thanks and take care, The Team at Kailash Blades"

That sure was a spooky time- and it got much worse and dragged on a lot longer than anyone was anticipating. Thankfully it looks like it's just about finally past us. Operations and order timelines are back to normal at the very least. Take care, Andrew and the team at Kailash

They are sorta like the hipster branch of khukhuri makers. Hahaha hit the nail on the head here We do try to provide something that's a bit different and alternative to a pretty saturated khukuri market but hope we're still pretty accessible and not too obscure at the same time- if you've got any suggestions on ways to have a broader appeal it'd be very much welcome. Take care, Andrew and the team at Kailash
