The "scalloped" grip was likely not an authentic Han Dynasty grip type, but rather a modern artistic invention. In Han Dynasty, Jian is a military weapon and the handle is more flat than round. This way the swordsman can tell instinctively where the blade is. If interested, please take a look at the following link, specially the first link that have real surving example of intact handle with cord wrappings to increase the control and contact and to soak up sweat during combat. Smooth or scalloped round handle is not very nice to hold on to and so far no example have been find this way in real Han Jian as far as we know. lkchensword.com/ancient-jianlkchensword.com/han-jianlkchensword.com/weight-of-han-jian

The Kult Of Athena Sword you share is not a Han Jian, but a modern artistic creation which the design artist incorporate 4 plants called by Chinese the 4 Gentlemen of Plant.
Plum blossom (in the pommel) -- Plain flower bloom in early spring, symbolized high moral and not go with the cheap beauty Orchid (in the hand guard) -- Delicate flower symbol of a Gentleman Bamboo (in the middle of the scabbard) -- Strong and green in the winter, be able to withstand cold and hardship CHRYSANTHEMUMS (at the tip of the scabbard) -- Flower late in the fall when all other flowers faded, endurance of harsh condition.
So this sword is the kind that scholars like to hang in their studios for artistic and symbolic values. Very beautifully design with good taste and the bamboo type handle goes with the whole plant theme.
We know that is is not a Han Jian because the concept of the 4 flowers did not exist at that time , and also, there is a bronze fittings that wrap the blade by the hand guard.
This is call swallowing mouth and this type of fitting exist only in Ming and Qing dynasty swords (1600 AD onwards).
The Huanuo sword is more of a traditional Ming and Qing style handle and design.
