I am looking to buy a few British military swords../ primarily Royal Navy. What sites should I be watching that fellow members here have had good dealings with or can recommend based on known reputation?
THanks...

Partners of oldswords.com are generally stellar sources or British swords but be ready for sticker shock www.antiquearmsandarmour.com/www.garthvincent.com/www.thelanesarmoury.co.uk/www.antiquearmsandarmour.com/www.faganarms.com/www.magazinroyal.be/albanarms.com/www.jcmilitaria.com/www.bygoneblades.com/www.harveywithers.com/antique-swords-for-sale/British naval stuff is pretty much catch as catch can and to be honest, keyword searches on your favorite engines will save some time. An 1805 cutlass can sometimes surpass the price of an 1827 officer sword of the later years in good condition. Posting a WTB (particular type) ad over at the SFI antique classified section might garner a ping. oldsword.com requires a subscription and I don't know if it is just my weird grandfathered account but I can't seem to make the classified section there search, or how one would list a WTB there but the British collectors and dealers are frequent users there. ebay and other auctions, again keyword searches to find stuff. I generally have good luck at ebay but am currently waiting on a sale item from a new French seller. There are a few Facebook groups and other boards as well where the serious British collectors hang. Happy hunting GC

I have also had good dealings with bygoneblades.com. I've had good dealings with these folks, too: oldguns.net (and specifically John Spangler) www.ima-usa.comNone are specific to British swords. Also, Matt Easton may be worth a look: www.antique-swords.co.ukI have not bought from him, but I would if he had something I wanted and could afford. He seems pretty into British swords, so may be a good person to contact. These guys seem to sell pretty close to retail, so maybe no great deals to be had. However, their wares seem to be genuine, and they seem to be up-front about any issues, etc.

Ivory is not a problem on older swords and much of the swords before the 2nd quarter 19th century are mastadon ivory anyway. There are clearly posted CITES exceptions for antiques.
