I’ve got the original, had it about 30 years. Use to take it camping, carried it in vehicles. It has definitely been used and looks it. Can see this new one should have some advantages over older one.

Can see this new one should have some advantages over older one. I like the extra length for the swinging power. It will certainly make a better shovel, and overall weapon in an open field (minus, I think, the throwing capability), but your losing the compactness and portability that makes the original shine. The CS spetsnaz should be in every car, truck, house in the good old world. Watch the EXCELLENT MR. Inbetween of FX use the thing in an ugly way. Well, BOTH is always the stock answer as to which t choose, no.

Yeah, I'm not sure that "50% bigger" is an improvement, really. They might as well have made it full size and given it a proper D-grip handle, to boot.

I prefer the e tool issued prior to the self folding ALICE tool.

You know...I wonder what this would be like remounted on a 6' pole? Shovel/glaive?

I'll stick with my Bundeswehr Klappspaten. Durable, handy, has a wicked little fold-out pick, and was probably designed to cut the Warsaw Pact ones in half. Nice shovel, and a decent tomahawk as well.

Having using both the spetz and a modern e-tool, the D-handle makes an e-tool better for digging but garbage for hitting or chopping with the edge.
