UPS brought these in today: Tod Cutler Brass Mace 5 Hanwei Viking Scramasax I have been watching a lot of Tod's youtube videos, and that guy is amazing. I was inspired to buy one of his maces. This thing is wicked! Very substantial yet fast. The brass spikes are sharp. I am going to put some linseed oil on it and probably a leather wrist strap too. Highly recommend it. I may have to go find some pumpkins... The Scramasax was a KOA dent and scratch item purchased on a whim. It is solidly built. The wood and fittings are very nice. I really don't see why this was listed as damaged. The blade is thick and nicely shaped. It isn't particularly sharp, but I can take care of that. The top edge is dull but could definitely be sharpened.

Nice! "Headache" and "Stomach Ache" :D "Bellyache" has a nicer ring to it, though.

It's the steel on the inside that counts.

That mace gives the term- 'meat tenderizer'- a new meaning. The seax looks great! I've threatened to get one of those several times.

Update: in the dry Montana air, the mace head has loosened up quite a bit. It won't come off but it rotates around the shaft now. Nuts. Perhaps I will do some additional wedging.

Another update. After a couple of weeks, the wood shrunk so much the mace head slipped off. To be expected in such low humidity. Anyway, I cut out old wedge, coated the top of the mace with epoxy, coated the wedge with epoxy, and hammered it in until it formed a nice mushroom over the top of the mace head. It's rock solid now. I added a leather lanyard and a couple of coats of linseed oil. Now off to bash some pumpkins... Photos here if you care: photos.app.goo.gl/2kzg2yWmf7wsew626

Hi Seth, were you the one that bought a couple of those mace heads and were going to make a double sides mace/staff with them? Nope. That wasn't me though I think these would work well for that because they aren't overly heavy.

It was me. I'm actually wrapping that project up at the moment. Once the enamel clear coat dries, I'll post some photos of it. Edit: Here are some photos of my homage to the Monkey King's staff.

I bought a Tod's mace head like the OP's from KOA and it is a wicked little beast. Extremely sharp edges guarantee a LOT of blood from any head strike.

Yeah. That project of mine quickly changed from a fun art piece into one of the scariest weapons I own. I tried it out on some wooden pallets, and then some cinder blocks...it easily destroyed them all. There was only a little scuffing on the bronze contact points after smashing the cinder blocks. It's no lightweight, but I can still whip through my TMA (Japanese and Chinese) staff forms without any problem. It has enough linear momentum that I think it can kill with a well placed thrust.

I guess that's why George Silver puts the quarterstaff as one of the top weapons on the food chain.
