Even your Jade Lion gim weighs half a pound more than the many spadroons.
This thread wasn't only a joke.

If one looks closely enough, one can clearly see the moon is made of cheese.

In the viking era swords were so expensive that only the viking aristocrats could afford one. And they also had to know how to use them with their broad and thin blades. No brutally hacking into shields! I guess they used them similar to jian and spadroons, avoiding hard impacts and instead trying to slice the opponent behind his shield. How would you fight against a viking with axe and shield with Miss Flexy? To weight: My Jade Lion Gim should be in the avarage range for jian afaik. It's a bit heavier than an avarage spadroon but it gave me the idea to compare them. I consider Miss Flexie to be a gentleman's weapon. Like an arming sword shaped spadroon. Against light clothing it would be lethal, but I'm not sure I could make it past even a gambeson with it. It cuts really well but it's not the most stiff or heavy blade, so it isn't much of a chopper Doug Marcadia might not say it would kill, but I find it's appeal is its gentle ways Now Danu. She would kill. Even if dull, the thing would hit hard. It can thrust better than any of my swords too. Even if someone wore mail, the impact focused on such a strong point would break ribs I love how the swords have so much in common yet are nothing alike. I love the variety

That's not a bad idea. I could see the techniques working really well with miss flexie, since it's such a light weapon. Barely over 1lbs

Depending on your definition of hard impact, the military spadroon defintely saw them in its system, either against sabre, broadsword, or musket in direct parries, such as the side parry or st George's guard, where the opponents blade or weapon is stopped directly the guard and not so much in a flowy, redirecting way.

The quoted post was about viking swords and with hard impact I meant whacking it full power into a shield or helmet. Spadroons should be able to parry, real fighting jians too I guess (with a 30" blade - 1 lb jian of the han dynasty I have doubts).

It's the sword I always wanted but never got

Jians are made for over 3000 years now (started in bronze age) and changed their form like European two edged swords. Some jians are about 1lb or even less with still long blades, typical weight is 1,5 - 2 lb, much heavier ones or two handed jian exist too. But afaik the "typical" size is similar to a spadroon.
