Hi,
here's the review for:
www.strongblade.com/prod/sba-celticshortsword.html
Specs:
Overall Length:27 Inches
Blade Length: 21.5 Inches
Blade Width at widest point:2.75 Inches
Steel type: they didn't say what the steel type was so I emailed them. They said it is was "EN45" which is the European Standard for 9160 Spring steel. Same steel used in some Cheness Katanas.
Weight of sword is: 2 lb 3.7 ounces
Overall Review: Great for the money, and what was also nice that Strongblade will do custom engraving for a fairly nice price ($15-$20) bucks. However, if I could start over with buying a short celtic leafblade sword.. I probably would have bought this:
kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=TFW023
About twice the price.. but also probably worth it.
Cost was:
Description: Sharpened Tempered Celtic Short Sword
Price: $138.00
Description: Custom engraving
Price: $20.00
Shipping*: $12.00
Total Cost: $170.00
right out of the box, pommel was marred with some black markings.. (see pic) I was really worried about this, but turned out it rubbed right off!
here is a size comparison of Celtic sword (middle) $20 dollar machete on the left, Albion Knight on the right
Comes with a basic leather scabbard.. fits nice into it as shown here
For $20 bucks, I decided to get the Celtic Cross engraved on the sword (shown below). yah not historically accurate at all
Paid extra for the tempering. If not getting a wall hanger, then this is definitely a must!
Paid extra to have it sharpened. I "guess" it was sharpened, but the dullest blade I've ever got that was sharpened. I can remedy this myself though and sharpen it more.
Handling: "Feels" really heavy for a weight of 2 lb 3.7. but I guess that should be expected for Leaf bladed sword!
Durability: I haven't cut with it yet, but the pommel, blade, cross guard.. well everything.. seems really nice and durable!
so, if anyone was looking for a short leaf bladed sword for under $200.. i'd recommend it..however in my case.. I should held out for the
TFW Celtic Sword to come back in stock.. this one:
kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=TFW023
twice the price.. but the scabbard looks much nicer, the sword is a little lighter, steel is 5160 spring steel IMO better than 9160, and the blade shape just looks better to me
