Man its been a while since I've been on this site. I recently purchased a caplock black powder rifle, from a pawn shop that was ran by a few people who didn't really know a whole lot about BP shooting. It's not an antique, but I did notice a few things that have me concerned. The nipple is mushroomed over and bent, everything I've seen for them have them straight with a chamfer on the outside and a countersink inside. Its beaten so bad that I cant even fit a percussion cap on it so I know for sure I'm either going to replace it entirely since I cant even put a cap on it, or do some work on it. It also looks like the hammer isnt striking it in the center, you can see a lighter section off center where it's been striking instead. Should I be worried about this too? Or is that not a huge issue Here's a few images. I can send others later, just getting into work now. imgur.com/a/wkLyPTV

It looks to be striking off center due to the bent nipple. Change out the nipple first, it should be enough to fix the striking issue.
What caliber is it ?

First of all, treat it as if it’s still loaded! If it has the ramrod with it, see if there’s two lines on the side. If the rod doesn’t go all the way down the barrel to the line furthest from the breech, there’s still something in the barrel!
If it is indeed still loaded, you’ll need to dig it out with a bullet puller attachment for the rod. Any powder in there is likely to be caked up. This is NOT a fun job digging it all out, but it’s not a lost cause yet.
That nipple definitely needs to be replaced. Get it off there with a channel lock or something and then remove the bolster drum cleanout (held in with the flathead screw in your pic. Then you’ll get a better idea at what’s going on at the breech end of the barrel.
What brand is the rifle? That will help to locate replacement parts.

Yeah I'm going to replace the nipple before I do anything with the hammer. I've made sure to keep it pointed away from anyone, rule 1 and all that. There's no lines on the ramrod for me to tell through that way. It's .50 cal, as far as I can find it's a hawken model made by armi sport, though I may be wrong and cant find anything like it from that maker.

Well as an update, the barrel is 100% unloaded. Took a small light and shone it in, it's nice and clear. Gonna make sure to mark the ramrod now to be sure. In any case, here's the rifle, and the only markings I can find. Not sure if any of these will help find parts. Apologies for poor image quality, phone camera isn't the best. imgur.com/a/VN1TdHi

I remember my first, and only, black powder firearm. It was a Traditions Lightning in .54 calibre. I got so used to it; I started maxing out the powder charge. I loved it. My younger brother did not like it so much. I even went as light as I could on the powder charge.
