....the Kingston Arms side sword really is an amazing single handed sword. Completely lives up to the hype. I never expected a 2 lb 10 oz sword with a complex guard to feel better than a well balanced 2 lb 2 oz jian. The balance and handling of this sword is phenomenal, it truly blows my mind how well thought out every aspect of this sword is (well...except for the scabbard, to be fair....)
Just wanted to share with y'all that this one is really a phenomenal piece (to my taste), handles splendidly and has a miraculously perfect balance for serious fencing (rapier and jian enthusiasts would simply love the balance and feel of this sword). It's just the perfect design for a single handed cut n thrust sword for my intents and purposes.
So let's hope it lives past the 'honeymoon' phase and maintains this high regard, because the initial impressions are truly sublime. I'll post more detailed thoughts and perhaps a thorough review sometime in the next month or so after I thoroughly evaluate the piece and continue studying with it.
Special thanks to Luis Garza (LG Martial Arts) for giving the heads up he has these in stock. Pleasure doing business with you!

I was once waiting for koa to stock one and got impatient so i got a windlass instead. Glad to know it's good.
Can the ka sidesword be disassembled easily?

It appears the pommel's threaded (and on there pretty good), so I would assume so. Everything's rock solid tight, so I don't feel like taking it apart just yet
Yeah, I was in the same boat. KoA oversold, I pivoted to mortuary hilts, researched them intensely, almost pulled the trigger and then this popped up.

Both SBG Store and KOA show it in stock, too.
I got mine from the previous batch Paul had in the SBG store.

I was looking at that recently, the wait listed on KoA surprised me. Glad to hear it's good, though not so glad to hear the pommel is threaded. I must have missed that on the KoA page.

Another question if you don't mind. How's the blade/edge geometry? I quite dislike those with fat edges and too much 'niku' although i appreciate that it lends durability to the edge. A thin, acute slicing edge is much more to my liking

A thin, acute slicing edge is much more to my liking I'd call the edge smart. The forte of the blade is blunt and wide and gradually increases in sharpness and decreases in width and thickness up til the point. Definitely not a thick 'niku' edge in the foible, unlike the more beastly designs out there (think lenticular profiles and the like). Very smooth cutting plane, but substantial enough I don't anticipate deformation. Ridge isn't significantly elevated, so it's far from having cutting impediments. Well thought out design I think.

The aspect I love the most is that it flows with just about any style you want. Even tai-chi style stuff is perfectly viable and it doesn't feel heavy or cumbersome. It's just such a well thought out design.

It is. My favorite is rapier and cut and thrust, it's near perfect.

A good DIY project would be to re-wrap the grip in wire with some braided Turk's knots like the original Hanwei version. I painted over the knots on mine with a gold paint pen and made it look even better.

I've been eyeing this model off and on for years. Only thing holding me back besides money was the original hollow grip. I assume this is no longer the case?

The Kingston Arms side sword does not have a hollow grip, it’s solid... it does have a threaded pommel though. I don’t have any pics of one that disassembled, but if you search for “Kingston Arms” on the SBG Facebook page, you should find my post selling them (Luis LG Garza), and some others posting pics of the pommel taken off of one.

Just looked at the sword on KOA, and in the description they say that the grip is leather-wrapped wood. This is for the sharp, not the fencing model...but I would think they would be the same.

Good to know. The (ridiculous) sale going on the SBG Store now may sway you, if the positive comments haven't already .
Despite this massive discount popping up, I don't feel like I missed out at all. Frankly, this sword's worth a lot more than the standard going rate given just how well executed it is. One week in of daily practice (at least an hour a day), and it's just getting better and better.
