My wild assed guess is of the French July Monarchy period (1830-1848). The original pattern was their 1816 model. Infantry or artillery, I'm not sure which fits best. The script on the guard may best place it in time but there are likely blade poincons/marks as well.

A small sword, if I'm correct about having a triangular blade. $40...I wish. hehe Does the folding guard work properly?

Army Officers small sword from the Louis XVIII period, hence the French cockerel holding the globe. You just saved yourself about $200 at minimum (Euroland prices) if the construction is sound and the flap mechanism still works. Pity the wiring is missing. Like Edelweiss says, there should be text and poincons near the guard. This will be a more reliable way to date it. Congrads!
Edit.
The descriprion is as follows:
NCO small sword for all Armies, model of 1817 modified 1831. In 1837 this model became the small sword for the Sanitary Services. Blade text: Manufacture Royale de Klingenthal + date. It is possible that the date on the blade goes back to the July Monarchy. Those old blades already in stock were used for this model.

Thank you all very much for the information! And yes I acquired it for $40. Yes the folding hand guard does work, quite well in fact, it is solid as is the rest of the sword, nothing loose anywhere 👍😎. I will look for the blade markings you have pointed out, unfortunately there is quite a bit of tarnish on the blade. Again thank you so much, and any more advice will be greatly appreciated!

I have not found any markings on the blade yet, but the collapsible guard is engraved "B,, Lefeburel" (no quotations), in cursive, if this helps any, and thank you guys again so much.
