Nice looking helm that I've considered buying several times. In one of the reviews, the guy said he had an 'average size' head and the helm was too small. What is 'average size'? It's listed as 12-1/2" tall and 8" wide and that's it. I really hate that MRL is so vague in their sizing of armor...especially helmets. Most helms are adjustable to a certain point, but a little more info would be great---like 'internal circumference' and such. That's why I get most of my helms from KOA, as they give pretty detailed measurements. Tailoring armor to fit isn't like taking up the hem in a pair of pants...trust me...I know. Okay, I'm done b*tching now.

The Deepeeka great helm in my photo is about 30" circ. at forehead level. You could fit a BIG bottle of scotch in there...

Get a helmet so large (think Rick Moranis in Space Balls) that your head AND the bottle of scotch (and sipper hose between the two) can reside. Burp, hiccup. Btw, nice Deepeeka great helm.

Two half-pints will fit under your arming cap quite comfortably due to the ergonomically designed curvature of the bottles. And, thank you. When I get around to installing a liner and chin strap, it will be my favorite of my helms.

I just looked at the KOA site and it appears you have the lightest gauged one at 20 (vs 18 & 14, respectively). Was there a reason, as in too heavy, different style than preferred, killer deal, etc...? Wonder what their historical weights were (maybe changed over time).

Ha... . No, unless you were looking at a different helmet. Mine is 14ga. and weighs over 5 lbs , I think. KOA has their ad messed up. Very much 14ga. I just liked the looks of it, and wanted another helm to put my own liner in. I got their ultra-cheapo $47 Norman nasal helm and added my own leather liner and chin cord, and now it's fully functional and not just a metal bucket.

When I did, the site said it was 1 of only 5 remaining. Wonder if the others sold out? In any case, I'm pretty excited about it. I'm going to love having a helm so closely attached to the great King Saint Louis IX! Maybe I should see about painting it blue and gold? That might make me *HAVE* to also get a new blue surcoat, so maybe I shouldn't go down that path? I do still have my eyes on a Pembroke style great helm in case I can get a good deal on one.
