Dammit! Missing out again! I was gonna get this the last time! Spent my monthly toy money already, and payday is tomorrow.

That sounds like the story of my life. A good price too. I'd like one but not enough to fight the red tape. I think I'd have a hard time convincing them it's a garden tool then they would leave me alone.

I don't really care that much either way. Upon looking at the Orleans (KOA puts it through its paces on a human upper torso), I'm not sure about its thrusting ability. It looks like it would function like a heavy, 3lb. 2 1/2 foot axe.

Well... yeah. It's an axe that can stab, not a spear that can chop. But thrusting with the top of an axe during pull-push actions happens.

I should have been a bit more specific in that in addition to the weight to overall shortness, the spear point is almost parallel to the top of the axe blade, so almost a two pronged affair (maybe not a bad thing) meaning greater thrust speed may be needed. That spike on the backend looks like the real death blow. No question a powerful battle mace against armor, so the spear point can't hurt...well you, that is...not so great to the person getting poked.

I would probably want to use that spike in one of two ways:
Hook shield lip, pull, thrust forward suddenly when they pull back.
Or
Wide two-handed grip as an anti-clinch.

And you can poke, pry, push/pull, rake with all those points up close, and ain't nothing gonna break as it looks sturdy as hell. Looks like a pretty good weapon for an armored knight.

I'm hoping the weapon of the week will be the new Scottish arming sword. I have a thing for those down-turned spatula guards and rivet-block pommels. I missed out on a good deal on a H/T EMSH blade and fittings, but one o' these days...... Poor-man's Albion Laird.

My guess is that it will be the Scottish Cutlass, that's cropped up a few times on the DOD

9/26 Scottish Plaid Skirt $ 59.95 www.museumreplicas.com/scottish-plaid-skirtFor the weapon DOD i'm thinking a sgian dubh because they are focusing on Scottish Heritage stuff for Highland Games and everyone needs a Sgian Dubh to complete their costume!
