Available in 2.75", 4.2", 5.5" barrels. I'm really thinking about that 5.5" Redhawk (52oz...what recoil?). My S&W 4" 627pro is too similar size wise with the 7 round GP100 (and better in most ways) to justify Ruger purchase and I don't dig sub 3" barrels for .357. This particularly applies to the Redhawk, as you have this big, beefy, beauty (say that 3 times fast) that can digest any ammo (particularly against 4 legged beasts) and then effectively neuter its advantages by chopping off the barrel, thus reducing sight radius & velocity. Still a cool gun, but with somewhat of an identity problem, as it doesn't know if it wants to be an edc with the 2.75" barrel or an easy recoiling home defender, range blaster, bear protector with that massive size & strength.

Out of the 357 revolvers, it would come down to the S&W 13 and 19.

Yeah, the S&W 13 is a cool revolver. Not much of a sight picture but good enough for up close. The S&W 19-4 is the 2nd revolver I bought back in 1980. Left it at my Dad's house as I was overseas most of my military time. He thought I had given it to him as he had it so long. Brought it home after he passed last year.

I have a Ruger Speed Six in .357 for hunting purposes. Not that it's really needed but I wanted a revolver and .357 is pretty ideal. Mainly shoot .38 Special but will load up with .357 when going after pigs. Of course some training with .357 is necessary. In short: I like the gun, it's fun to shoot, reliable and I like the looks.

What length barrel, 6"? Lots of people liked the Speed Six.

No, the shortest. 2,75". I need to carry it concealed and I've found anything (much) longer gets uncomfortable quickly when sitting long periods.
I would have loved a 3" S&W but they are hard to get and quite pricey, the Ruger was less than half of what a S&W would have cost. And it really more of a "nice to have", for 99% of hunting scenarios, you don't need any hand gun over here. That being said, just yesterday, I might have been glad to have it. A hunting buddy shot a wild pig, it didn't have the grace to go down immediately (despite decent shot placement) and we had to follow the blood trail through the underbrush. The rifle was so not practical there... Luckily we knew it was a small enough pig, a big boar we wouldn't have followed in there. The pig was dead when we found it so no need for the Ruger after all, but, it might come to it one day, who knows.

Lots of interesting revolvers coming out nowadays from various manufacturers, many in the 3" barrel variety (I don't like 2" and under because 357 performance is just arse raped). I got a Ruger SP101 with the 3.1" barrel that didn't break the bank like some of the ones I really lust after (new Kimber dasa with 3" barrel...better trigger and extra round for same size). Make sure you also have access to a stabby blade when crawling in those swine holes. Good hog knives are probably a good topic for another thread.

And I'm now (as of three days ago) the owner of a Ruger Redhawk 8rnd 357 with 5.5" barrel. HEAVY (3lb 9 1/2oz fully loaded with 357) but balanced and not too forward weighted at the barrel. Trigger feels fantastic, but I might want to sand the inner wood handle slab on one side because there is slight space between the it and the steel frame. Ruger should really not allow such amateur workmanship nowadays, being that the price has inched up considerably over the last several years. In the Smith 586 vs Ruger GP100 debate I went N frame (627pro 4") and Ruger Redhawk, with both frames that shoot .44magnum...you are already big, just go a bit bigger, as some of the L frames and GPs weigh as much as the bigger frame N (2lb 14oz fully loaded with 357). The Redhawk in particular was build from the ground up to handle the most insane 44 mag rounds, and eat ALOT of them. The Smith is much easier to carry and present, particularly from a holster, but the Ruger (I assume) will shoot softer and be even more durable.
