Whats the oldest piece in your collection? In other words, the sword you've had in your possession the longest. Post a pic below if you have one! Mine is my 1909 Cossack Brigade shashka. Just an absolutely wonderful and versatile military sabre.   |

 Just a common Indian wallhanger sabre, re-hilted after the original rat-tail tang broke off, and the scabbard re-covered. It's seen service as a costume sword and a garden tool. Cost me $10 in 1985 (or maybe 1986). |

The sword I’ve had the longest is my first sword: a basic liuyedao by Shirly Sword. I got it as a gift from my dad about three years ago, and I really cherish it. I have enjoyed it immensely. Over the years, I’ve spent hours disassembling it, (lightly) modifying it, practicing and cutting with it, and just admiring it. It’s a “real” functional sword, but bigger and quite a bit thicker in the blade than (brutally expensive) historical examples. It is pattern welded, and is my only sword with an hamon. Heres a pic when it was new, and a couple of my ham-fisted attempts to wrap the grip. 🙂    |

It would be my first sword, a Cheness Kaze that I bought from the SBG Sword Store back in January of 2011. It turned out to be exactly what I wanted at the time(...as a total noob, and exactly not what I found I wanted with experience, hahaha). That being said, it was well made and constructed, took all the idiotic doo doo that I put it through as an unintentionally abusive neophyte and is still in good shape.

I think the oldest one I've still hung on to is an Arms & Armor Cavalier, about 21 years old. (Hey, now "legal.)

Out of the swords I have with me, maybe my GSOW. My sister has my KC 29,which would be the oldest one. Had that for over 5 years.

My oldest sword is my first real sword at all, a Gen2/Legacy Arms Maintz gladius I bought 2012. I was surprized how big a "short sword" can be, the hand and a half grip let it look shorter than it is Here in the picture next to my latest sword, a Windlass Centurion gladius.  |

Of swords I have retained the longest....A first batch of XIIIa swords from Gus Trim as sold through Albion. Purchased in early 2001. On our left a light "classic" XIIIa, or stage right with a 2003 era Gus Trim 1319 in the center and a Del Tin 5157. Part of what is left of my centennial Oakeshott typology swords.  |

A 1796 I've had since 1974. It was excavated in Spain and was formerly in the collection of Jacob Javits.

Have many swords that predate the ones I am showing including antiques but got them later on the secondhand market. Also had some swords before the ones I am showing but no longer in the collection. I guess my first real collector's sword is my Cawood. I had a lot of wall hanger junk long before, but I got the Cawood when the model was first introduced. So, I suppose that makes it my oldest. Ask me again in 20 or 30 years...I'll still have it.  |

My oldest sword is the Qi dynasty sword by Hanwei. It has been discontinued for years, so I was fortunate to get it. I cannot recall exactly when I bought it, but I do know it was sometime during the early Obama years, so 2008-2010 or thereabouts.

Earliest purchase still in my family is a Johann Schmidberger Austrian Masterpiece (https://imgur.com/gallery/wrDpL4F; posted by someone else but you get the idea). Bought in late 1980s or early 1990s from MRL. One of my brothers has it now. Earliest in my current collection (so after a 20+ year hiatus) is an antique Ames 1863 light cavalry saber. Antique Qaddara (origin unknown)This piece was given to me by my Father-in-law in the summer of 2011, when I had just started collecting. He picked it up over 20 years ago at an anique & collectibles shop, somewhere in California, but that's the most he can remember about it at the moment. A unique piece nevertheless. From what I could find,late 19th to early 20th century?
