I'm happy with the books... I like things to be properly fleshed out and not shoved into a tiny box of crap like the last season. Night king got hyped all series - sUpeR nInJa ArYa jumps out of the air and stabs him. Just an example. The plot armor was strong this season. I doubt it would be so in the book. And exactly this two points came directly from GRRM, along with the Hodor twist! What a PITY! Read some news... By the way, i saw Nightking being no more hyped than Cersei/Bran/Daenerys/Jon; and i was quite pleased with his ending. And Arya was meant to be a weighty character for a long time; as well as in the books. Born and raised in Winterfell, knowing all kinds of rabbitholes, corridors, dark corners... haters gonna hate. Cant be helped, i do it myself with DSA for example. But we should finish trying to convince each other; we are LIGHTYEARS away. By all means. Can we not with the "haters gonna hate" stuff? I'd like to believe we're more mature than Taylor Swift and acknowledge that people can disagree with us for perfectly good reasons without becoming a mindless "hater".

The problem isn't what happened, it's how it happened. It was rushed. Bran only started getting hyped up once it was revealed he had mystic abilities. Compare this to the Night King who gets a reference in the first episode when we see the deserter being executed. Jon was basically a main character that we followed along with Cersei and Dany. So their hype is pretty different compared to what should have been (or should have felt like) a major antagonist. We always knew Cersei was the big baddie, and that Dany was destined to go to Westeros. We all had heard the theories about Jon secretly being a Targaryen. But we see these characters a lot, all throughout the show, they are a central focus, as opposed to the Night King, who is supposed to be so scary because he's so secretive. We see him only on a few rare occasions and his force is set up to be a terrifying unbeatable army. The unsullied and Dothraki were also handled poorly, they followed Dany and basically worshiped her, even massacring a whole city - but she gets killed, they have the killer in their hands, and they just pack up and leave with really very little discussion that we see. 0 conflict - just the "small man says to make the cripple man the king, and we let the bad man go back to his post on the wall? Sounds good, let's pack up".
But I guess it doesn't matter because the show has no logic - after all, what royal ever disliked the idea of their power being given to their subjects? Per the article you posted a while back.
Again, not trying to convince you of anything at all. Just posting up my view on why the show's end was disappointing to me and why I think your criticism of the books is a little unfounded.
I was wondering how Jon got out of there in one piece as well. Remember, there was no corpse of Dany lying around, as Drogon flew of with her it his talons. Did Jon come down the stairs, fess up, then turn himself in?

Did Jon come down the stairs, fess up, then turn himself in? Nay; that dagger must not be allowed near the dwarf. Yeah sure hon, take your sword and dagger into the queens chamber who you have a public spat with Oh no, she got stabbed! Actually yeah, why wouldn't they assume she flew away? Stupid Jon. Just claim the throne.

Just claim the throne. Look he's smarter than Grey Worm. The dude was ready to recognize any authority figure, was happy to let Jon go with a slap on the wrist, and then he just left. If Grey Worm truly believed Jon killed Dany, why not just execute him? Why does Grey Worm give two semprinis what this council has to say?

It was a poorly made ending. That’s all there is too it. If you enjoyed it, that’s fine. Doesn’t change the fact that the writing was poor quality.

Smaug vs Drogon, who would win?

Drogon would end up being Smaug turds.

Drogon would end up being Smaug turds. Agree, as Smaug was one scale short of invincible with that golden armor, though those GOT Scorpion Ballista bolts were INSANELY penetrative, to the point of gunpowder artillery effective.

The bigger question (in my mind) is why you wouldn't change your name from Grey Worm at the first opportunity ?

I have a cousin named Gray Worm. He goes by G.W., gets agitated when someone calls him Worm. But he really doesn't mind his first name. His sister is named Chartreuse.

The bigger question (in my mind) is why you wouldn't change your name from Grey Worm at the first opportunity ? It's a big thing in the books. The Unsullied picked names out of a bucket each day to keep the less human. Many unsullied did change their names, but Grey Worm was his name the day he was freed, and he thinks it is a lucky name.

This is the central point that show defenders are missing. If all that mattered was raw plot, we could have cut to the end in the first season. It's the "how" that matters in any story.
