Right now we train at a public park, but have been searching for an indoor space. Most local rec-centers are too savvy on having sword weilding folks in the facility (liability issues..they say). I have explained in an attached letter to our bio "in search of indoor space", that we are a "historical fencing" group with safety and true purpose in mind. Not just a wack & hack bunch of heathens. Have sent out / dropped off bio letters to other places (dojo's, theatrical stage groups,) but no real responses. Have talked some to a local fencing intructor from the main YMCA here...but he says they would wanted big money to start a program.
So I thougth I'd ask around here......where does your group train and how much in monthly rent / fees do you have to come up with for indoor space.
We are a very small group (6 on a good night- 4-5 avg night)
Cheers,
billiam

I know of other contact sport groups that have started in church basements. Worth a try - you may even interest a local pastor or priest in the historical side of your training (or more, I've trained with a priest in the past). Also, you may find a more sympathetic ear if you go in person. I wouldn't respond to any flyer like that - without knowing the person first.
But sadly, I think you will find the liability issue a problem. Good Luck

There is of course insurance you could purchase to cover liabilities that may or may not(depending on your group) may be feasible (each person contributing something akin to $10-$15 a month, more or less depending on how many people you have there).
By getting information like that together and getting insurance for your group this puts on a good professional image to these different places which could help your credibility.

We hire a squash court at the local sports center, no one seems to mind although we do get some funny looks. ;D

Billiam, make sure that any flyers etc you produce look nice and professional, get some insurance sorted out and make sure that it's mentioned in your literature. Good luck.
