...on my 2017 Apokatana! So because there was little interest in my Apokatana offer i decided to remove the sale and give her a long wanted modification: getting rid of most of that DARN tsuba! Man... i like katana, a little, for what they are... but i dont want to get that "must have magic sword style" in a design from one of my favoured makers! Theoretically, she is still to acquire - but i like her A LOT more the way she looks now! What do you guys think of the new look? 😎

I haven't seen the before but it looks cool. I like katana but calling this a katana is a disservice to it IMO. With a little more character added this would have even more fantasy appeal. Some more elegant finish and engraving and it would look elven, a little more crude for an orc...for example.
Do you have a saya or sheath for it?

Interesting idea, I can see what you did. But I prefer a little more hand protection - even in a zombie akopalypse - and have no problem with the look of the original tsuba on mine.

Interesting. Why not go all the way and grind it all away, making this a bit like a Valeria's or a VA Zombie Slayer? I always disliked that little broadening just above the tsuba, that looked off to me right from the start... I'd take that down, too. Be brave, Holg

Be brave, Holg no... the blade shape is what i like the most on this sword. And the "tsuba" is OK for now.

But I prefer a little more hand protection - even in a zombie akopalypse - and have no problem with the look of the original tsuba on mine. well i have been told from an antique collector who also holds some genuine Nihonto that the main purpose of the tsuba is to keep blood away from pouring all over your hands; it has no use in combat techniques. Makes somehow sense to me; a bokken has not tsuba (most of them). But on the other hand: a shinai does? Well, i dont really care too much; i find tsubas decorative and they improve the harmony and flow of a katana... but i dont like them on "tactical" or fantasy designs.

It keeps the green gunk away from your hands!

My sensei says that the stuba is useful to hide your hand and the rotation and your angle of attack when you quick draw.
But then what do I know, I'm a noob at iaido.

P.S Damn I'm domewhat drunk as I write this (this was laborious).
