I've been hanging around the customization board the past few days while I contemplate a custom sword, but I figured I would formally introduce myself here as well.
My name is Ethan (as you can probably gather from my username), and I am a high school student with a passion for making things. Doesn't matter what the things are, I just enjoy getting my hands on some raw materials and making something out of them! This passion of mine mainly expresses itself through my woodworking hobby, and occasional messing around with electronics, but I've also taken a few pottery classes, and I have notebooks full of architectural sketches for buildings that have no chance of ever getting built.
Oh, and I should probably mention the LEGOs, I have lots, and lots of LEGOs. Some may say they are a child's toy, but I consider them a medium for art! And even if you think it's silly to have every square inch of shelving in my bedroom full of LEGOs, I don't care, because I love them
I would say that I've been interested in swords ever since I was a child, but legally speaking that only means since 8 days ago, so I'll re phrase that to say that its been a long time. My interest really spiked when I was in 5th grade and studying the medieval period. During that year, my class took a trip to the Higgins Armory in Worcester MA (a museum that used to hold the second largest collection of medieval armor and armaments in the US), and I fell in love with all the pieces of history there. I went back several times before the armory closed, and often wished I had the money to purchase one of the replicas they sold. In my wood shop, I have made several wooden swords, but I was never really happy with any of those, which is why I eventually decided to go out and get a real sword.
Because of my love for making, I'm currently thinking about making a custom sword using a bare blade from Albion. If any of you want to see my design and any progress I make on that, I started a thread over in the customization board, where I'm currently trying to get a better idea of the process of finishing a heat treated blade.
